  3. need info & opinions

I agree with comments as stated above. ASll the push thru's we do clear or white all have a step or lip on the back to attach to the back of the face. It really does not matter how its decorated or color. We do Metal laminate on the face, Trans vinyl on the face, Opaque paint on the face and...
  4. Information Needed.............

I think DAK was on busy on the phone selling direct to a retail customer.
  5. LED Reader Board

While Daktronics makes a nice product they are also your competitor. My customer just lost a job to them and bought direct from Daktronics. It sucks when your supplier is your compitition.
  6. Would you do it again?

I do know 1 thing, that in the 1970's a 3 color "for lease" sign went for 250 bucks. Now it likely sells for the same or less. The difference is that sign shops now do the same work with 20+ thousand dollar printers and materials are 3 to 4 time what they were back in the day. Would I do...
  7. Pricing on Routed Jobs

We cut a lot of material for other sign shops. We charge for everything. Set up, which includes fixing crap art file. Route time and table clean up. If it has bridges removing them. packaging and crating. If any special bits are needed. Also I wont cut warped or crap material. I almost...
  8. CarveWright?

We run our machine at least 6 hrs a day and some time 6 days a week. We also have a Multicam and run Enroute. Our machine is a 80x120. It was all we had space for when we bought it. We cut a lot of alum and plex since we are mainly a electric shop. When we get another machine it will have...
  9. Lusterboard signs from 07 are failing.

Anything done in any type of wood is a temporary sign......
  10. For all you shops that bring the pooch to work

My 2nd Golden Retriever came with me every day to the 1st small 4000 foot shop. No office just a desk. She also loved the air hose. I even had about 10 tools she would go get for me by name. She lived long enough to get to this shop. 20,000 sq ft with about 4000 of office. We have...
  11. LED Display Signs

BTW I think anyone foolish to buy a non listed sign to re sell. At the minimum the added thought that if it catches fire or falls and you are getting sued the listing agencies with have bigger lawyers than yours to say that the sign has been built to a standard and has done testing. That can be...
  12. LED Display Signs

Here is a little story for you. One of my customer that we build signs for sells a lot of electronic message centers. Mostly Daktrinics. He has a 20 year relationship with one of his customers that wanted a good size EMC. She said he was to high and she found one online and would he put it...
  13. Aluminum Sign Welding/Brazing Newbie

Also not mentioned was the crack caused from damage or poor design/initial weld. Take it to someone who is qualified to repair it properly. If it falls or fails now you own the problem.
  14. CNC .080 mister?

One thing I did not see mentioned is the alloy of the material. All of the pre finished stuff is soft 3003. It machines like crap with or without a mister. We try to NOT ever cut it. We cut .080 5052 alloy at about 80 IPM and around 18700 rpm and use a synthetic oil for the mister. We use...
  15. Where could I get this Lightbox?

Do you have a local sign shop that does a lot of service and install? They will likely be cheaper than a electrician. The electrician who will be good at most stuff may struggle finding components to get you going. Example local elec supply house wanted 12 bucks for a 3 dollar lamp at sign...
  16. vintage flex face oval pole sign (retainer clip question)

Looks like a 3-M or Transco clip. Take a close up and I can tell 4 sure.
  17. Lacryl 400

Dont scuff. Water and a chamois work great.
  18. Trying to fix a mess.

You could use spaylat or grip flex remover and get back to clear and re spray if you have the equip, time and tallent. Dont use LACQUER thinner as it will eat the plastic if its polycarbonate.
  19. $2.88 for Coroplast Signs with wire stakes!

Buy them from the really cheap guy and mark them up.
  20. 5000 6 x 10 sheets an hour, anyone?

While its cool to think possible its not remotely practical for the SIGN industry. We looked at a big job a month ago that was only 1200 4x8 sheets of alum and plastic. When speaking direct to mfg. and mills they all said they would have a long lead time. Besides I doubt that enough work...
