It can work, but you might encounter difficulty in getting registration marks to read on non-white media that lacks contrast.

If that setup is accomplishing what you want, then use it. I would configure a QuickSet with those color management settings to automate the settings and make them available to print files going forward.

I would love to help, but I have never worked with that printer, nor have I attempted to change ink sets to fool the RIP into not using certain channels. Sorry I can't be of more help.

If you are profiling your display using a device (colorimeter or spectrophotometer), you would point VW to the current monitor profile. In the job settings dialog the on-screen color will be more accurate to the printed output (if this functionality is enabled).

You should also be using a transmisssive spectrophotometer (Spectrolino, DTP41T or Barbieri or similar) for best results with transparent media.

Nozzles that do not fire ink when directed are the definition of clogged. The nozzle test print will provide the answer. The only other possible issue could be air bubbles in the k channel.

Sometimes Postscript files (PDF PS, or EPS) can cause a RIP to go into a loop or otherwise crash. There is a RIP log in VW that may shed some light on what is happening with the file.
