If the aqueous printer uses DYE ink, then it won't last long before it's totally faded. If the ink is pigmented, then a clear Acrylic or Polyurethane coat will be adequate. Just do as BigNate said " Test a small area first.
It's better to get 2 separate printers, one for small prints like 2" x 3" and the other for large ones, as no large format printer will give you the quality needed for 2x3 like small desktop ones.

Switched a Mutoh 1624 (ECO model) from water based to eco solvent, used distilled water to clean the lines, then a mixture of distilled water with alcohol, then alcohol then solvent doing 2 ink charges in each step, took about 3 days to complete, it's working perfectly.
Latex uses less ink than cheap quality solvent inks. Although Latex ink consumption is almost the same or slightly more than using premium ink like Mutoh UMS
