Compact Printer?

I am looking for a compact digital printer. I don't have a lot of space in my shop and am not looking to print to full 4x8 sheets. I thought I had seen printers in the past that moved the material rather then the print head which meant less floor space taken up by the printer. I know I will still need the space for the material while it is being printed but I am not looking to print on anything larger than 30" x 30".

I would like a printer with ink that would not require a laminate to last at least one year outdoors. Would also be a plus if the printer could accommodate roll-to-roll banner printing.

Anyone know of anything like this?

TIA,
Brian

No, the one I seem to remember was like a cutter (standup) and had someway of holding the material and moving the material back and forth while moving the print head left and right.

Yep, that's it.

Now, anyone have any experience with any hybrid printers? Any pros or cons you care to share?

That can't be it. :readthread:

You want a 30" x 30" or so floor space. That machine is going to be at least 6' or 7' wide alone. With the tables, probably another 10' out the other way. What you're really looking for is some sort of thermal printer like a Summa 30". I forget the model number.

Do you want to print directly to substrate or media ??

I need it to print direct to substrate. The 30" x 30" is just the max size of the material I would be printing to, not the floor space I want it to fit into.

I like the Mutoh but would like to know if there is one that is not so wide.

Mimaki makes a table top flat bed but it's only got a 12x16 print area. Direct color also makes a smaller printer I think it's size is 12 x 24. These are the only two table tops I know of.
