I had an order to do a 4x8 foot sign for inside a hockey arena. The clients wanted gloss black with chrome lettering, I know, I didn't like it either, but it's work, and I work from our home. So the sign actually turned out well. I used 3mm gloss black e - panel and oracal polyester chrome. I am wondering what some of you would charge for this sign. I do not have to install it, just deliver it, which is not far. My investment in the sign is about $130.00 I am thinking of charging $425.00 but was looking for some input to see if I am in line.

$500 maybe if it's a one time customer?.. We actually have a lot of customers who use us to do more than just their signs for them.. So there for they get better pricing.. We don't bother with the one time sell.. Although we dont turn them down if they want to throw money our way..We pride ourselves on the business relationships we form with many companies..

$520 here with the chrome with basic typesetting (15 mins of time), Additional 15 mins of time for any extra work

The price seems ok. You already did the sign and did not talk price before you stsrted? You should have a firm price and deposit before you start. The price seems fair to you, but you might find your customer in price shock because they dont understand what signs go for.

If you said around $500, $475 sounds better to me...Plus $130 in materials is fine but your time is worth something too.

Sign will never be read across a rink, I can barely tell what half of it says this close.
If you have over $130 invested in this then you're doing it wrong.

I'm not saying charge less but at that price point even with overpaying for supplies it is still over $300 profit for 30 minutes worth of work.
And is it just me or is Deans # noticeably crooked?

The substrate should be around $70 tops, Using poly metal (solid plastic core) instead of dibond since it's overpriced IMO and then i think the chrome oracal stuff is $70 a roll for the 24"x10' chrome

This wouldn't be for a dasherboard (at least I wouldn't think so being on ACM) so it shouldn't need a cover. I would have charged more. And aside from being hard to read from any distance because of the amount of copy, chrome is notoriously hard to read and actually is invisible from some veiwing angles depending on the light

How do you figure $130+ is an over investment? I'd say at my suppliers prices, that's about right. I'm also not sure everyone is capable of doing a sign like this in 30 minutes. If you are, then you should still be charging enough to cover your overhead, not just your labor. A streamlined, productive shop that has the capability to produce such a sign that quickly surely has a fair amount of overhead to cover.
If a customer came to me wanting a similar sign, chances are they would have no artwork. I would spend at least 30 minutes creating a layout. Then I would have to take the time to order the material if it's not in stock. Then load the material up and cut, weed, and tape it. Then apply the vinyl to the substrate. That's at least an hour or work...on a good day.
I still think $500 is a fair and should be about a minimum price for a 4' x 8' sign of this nature.

Your right 30 minutes was a little too low time wise. I totally thought the same after I had posted. But it's under less than your over. This sign should not have taken someone 30 min. to lay out THIS sign. Did you look at it? If you go over a hour you got problems. In 18 years I have never not had a roll of chrome laying around. Besides primary colors it would be a must have (speaking on MY experiences) I base my prices on "standard" materials as to what I pay for them at the quantity I keep in stock. I'm not going to list my cost on what I would have used mainly because I don't have them with me to look at. I'm confident they would be less than what the OP stated. My point more was about what I have seen from some how some things "aren't even worth my time" if the same customer wanted the same sign on black coroplast and you got $400 would that be "worth your time" your only saving $50-$75 on materials. Now don't get me wrong I totally agree with this sign being around or even over the $500 mark, but I find some perceptions of pricing interesting.
This sign is probably the easiest of signs to create. Needing a high overhead is irelevent

This is a rink in a small town, and the sign will actually be in the inside viewing area, it will be fine in there, and Deans number is dead straight, just an illusion, but I do see why you would say that by looking at the picture
