Lawn mower banding

Does anyone know the cause and remedy for what I call the "lawnmower banding". This is when you have a large solid and have what loos like a football field with the dark and light stripes. This is not a case of feed adjust banding. I have seen it on other printers before. It only happens on certain materials in bi-directional. Is it a heat issue? I have even seen it on the VJ-1604 in G2 mode with fine wave.

I have the same thing on my VP540 (Roland)- it is a function of the rip in
this case (Wasatch) and does not happen with VersaWorks rip. This helps
you not at all of course- but when I saw the title I immediately understood
what you meant- kudos for nailing the description. Gene :U Rock:

If you don't get the heat worked out just right, you can also just do "directional" and only let it print in one direction, and that will help...but you may have already figured that one out since you said it does it in "bi-directional" mode.

It is typically a function of ink order

In one direction K goes down first then C then M then Y
In the other print direction Y goes down first then M then C and finally K

These can cause 'chromatic' color shifts and this banding is known as chromatic banding.

Temperature can help and sometimes solve the issue,
Lows temps allow the colors to mix a bunch before dry
Higher temps will try the droplets faster and help prevent mixing.

Chromatic will not be evident when printing uni
