Responsible law abiding citizens would not set their rights over the live of others. Responsible law abiding citizens shouldn‘t have a problem for example with background checks, if it will help managing a problem which causes so much pain again and again. Responsible law abiding citizens shouldn‘t have to fear background checks.

And from an european point of view, it is really irritating to see how much effort is spent to protect the unborn, while the efforts of caring for born childs and grown ups in cases of social security, health care or protection not to be killed by a lunatic with a gun is so poor.
THIS..... These people should have their names and all details hidden from the media. There shouldn't be reporters rushing to get the name or details of the person out either. The only people that should have any idea whats going on are the investigators and family of the victims.

When the Constitution was written, the government and citizens were on equal ground in terms of firepower. Just different versions of a single shot ramrod rifle. Only difference was artillery and you could forge your own if you knew how. The more recent governments have done an excellent job of proving that balance does not exist anymore. Remember Biden reminded the crazy Americans fighting for their rights that, "We have nukes" - a not-so veiled threat to bomb US citizens if we get too far out of line.

I never bought a firearm; I've only been given a couple over the years by family. That said, how does a background check work when purchasing one? I guess, first off, is there even one? Say that there is in your state. Does the background check only cover the first purchase? Or once you're cleared, can you now continue purchasing firearms without going through the background check each time?
Seems like continuing checks would be helpful. Kind of like retail workers who are trained to immediately engage with each customer as they walk through the door, and again periodically while they're shopping, just so they know you're paying attention to them. Allow the freedom, but keeping an eye on them as well.
And then when someone comes in to purchase their 200th gun, you can automatically just tag them as nuts and send over the cops because Jesus Christ, what sane person needs all that?

O wait, you Germans had someone like that in your country about 80 years ago, but he had millions of guns and a lot of people, including babies, died.

I don't care if you're from germany, canada, japan, south africa or russia.......... but you (as in generalities.... no one in particular) wanna say while there were hitlers, mussolinis, stalins, khrushchefs, genghis khans, yangs/mings, ivans, attilas and many many more..... we haven't learned from history ?? So, while we're supposed to forget and forgive all these ruthless barbaric people, you wanna hold ME responsible for slavery, racism and everything else that has gone wrong in the world in the last.... lets say the last 200 or so years ?? Give me a frickin' break. In my lifetime alone, I hadda give up prayer in the schools, the words I use have been changed, so now I use wrong words, I use wrong pronouns, I don't know a boy from a girl, I am responsible for every person killed on the street from a knife, razor, gun or bomb. I am accused of things I never participated in or even alive at the time. It's my fault there is a BLM day, martin luther hadda die, police killings, riots in just about every village in the usa, Am I responsible for pelosi and the other mental midgets in office, too ?? I didn't vote for a single one of them, but somehow, I get blamed for everything that goes wrong. So, why is that ??

The idea that the founding fathers didn't have a particular weapon in mind is a popular talking point for a lot of people but somewhat of a misdirection. Automatic weapons didn't exist at the time, which makes that a true statement. However the founding fathers had weapons that allowed them to defeat the most advanced military force of the time and overthrow the government.
Thomas Jefferson is reported to have said: "When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government"
I believe we can do better, but I don't believe that means limiting law abiding citizens to buying muskets.

People having guns never bothered me in the past but now there are too many idiots with them because it has become another look at me thing to do. There are just too many dumbasses out there with them now. Personally, I think that the real collectors, sportsman, enthusiasts and generally well trained sane people should get behind some sort of training or background program in order to keep their hobby from becoming a larger target. It is always the irresponsible ones that cause the responsible ones to have the nice things taken away. Same could be said for boat owners with all of the idiots on the water, old time pot smokers who keep to themselves, jackass contractors, companies that dump toxic waste, campers that trash areas, 4 wheelers that destroy trails etc etc. Even CDLs are hard to get now because so many people put idiots behind the wheel that should never have been driving a truck. Rules are almost always made because of knuckleheads and it ruins it for everyone else. You have to figure out how to keep these people out of it before it gets to a point like we see now. Guns are a tool, they should not be a way of life, culture or something you show off to everyone with stupid stickers all over your car. Its childish shit that is hurting the normal ones.
This is a pointless discussion. The type of mass shootings we're seeing right now are entirely preventable with some common sense legislation but that's not possible in a world where people advocating for gun control are considered snow flakes and bleeding hearts.
We're putting hammers in the hands of toddlers and blaming parents and the fact they are underdeveloped when in fact, the simplest solution is not putting a hammer in the hand of a toddler.
Also, it's disingenuous to bring up family as being an issue or mental health when you have no intention of offering any resources to improve those things? Mental health can be solved by making health care less expensive / included in your taxes, but that's not allowed because it's socialist. So people struggling with mental health issues are left to struggle without resources. Families? I'm sorry, but last I checked in order to survive in America you basically need to work no less than 40 hours a week, typically more. In addition, you typically need 2 parents working that much. How much can you expect from a parent? Forget after school resources and community resources. That would increase your taxes, which simply isn't acceptable. The internet is a much better babysitter.
