Rookie mistakes, chinese parts and finding this forum WAYYY too late has set me on the path of running down a rabbit hole. Does anyone know what my Roland VS540i is referring to by throwing the code
SERVICE CALL LINEAR ENCODER I? I have changed out the linear encoder scale and the linear encoder board ( now OEM parts) and this is what it shows. Oh and also service call 0110 which is all about the linear scale I presumed.

I recommend you first try moving the carriage by hand on the left side and see if it moves easily or feels stuck. 2. It could be a motor scan. 3. You may need to set the limit position.

Ok that is strange, that points more to a problem with either the mainboard or servo board. It could also be the cut carriage board is causing the issue.

I had a brown out in the shop, now a month ago, the lights flickered but popped right back on. If that's the case it could have fried something in the boards. But I checked the fuses, and they were fine. This machine has been lightly used, but its older. I wish I would have had a bit more training on the maintenance side of this purchase to stay ahead of problems. What do you suggest I look at next?

Do your service calls have any numbers with them? Maybe a pic of the control panel showing the error code...

I moved the carriage to the left side and back. It slides ok. Feels like the rail needs to be greased again, a bit of resistance maybe? Does that make sense?

Yes I can take a pic. The first says Service call 0110, the second says "SERVICE CALL LINEAR ENCODER I ( EYE)"not the number 1. The third one says "SERVICE CALL S UNUSUAL" 20251102_101250.jpg 20251102_101218.jpg 20251102_101141.jpg

Did you put the encoder in correctly, they need to be oriented correctly left to right. Cut corner to the right (panel side)
The sensor needs to be centered over the scale.
Need to run scan aging, the reset the limit.
Run linear encoder and linear calib
