The Royal Wedding

Not quite just a title. The queen, or king depending on just how the person might be equipped, of England is the head of state. This is an official and influential, and sometimes powerful, office. The prime minister is the chief executive.

In the USofA both the head of state and the chief executive is one person, the inept Obama. Assuming that other nations vest both duties in one person is being rather provincial.

Sure but who makes most of that countries decisions....Queen, or Prime Minister?

I guess I should add I'm not dissing on Great Britain. No offense to you brits on here or your country at all. Just not digging the wedding hype. lol.

Seems to me that it is kinda comparable to our tradition of fireworks displays on the 4th of July. Lot's of money spent, not much to show for it ... but everybody feels good for having experienced it.

Mighty decent of you Flame... since the US is like a country full of (culturally speaking) cave dwellers compared to the Brits.

For those who enjoy that sort of thing, Great! Just find it boring. I feel the
same about NASCAR, to each his own. I'm not putting down anyone who
thinks it exciting. Us cave dwellers are like that sometimes.

It's better to have two hands than one glove.

Not the point at all. You said that the monarch is hardly more than a title. I demonstrated that it was not.

The British monarch has the authority over the courts, is commander-in-chief of the armed forces and is the head of the Church of England. As a result, Queen Elizabeth appoints ministers, judges, diplomats, bishops, governors and some officers in the armed forces. She is head of the executive branch of government in Great Britain and must officially assent to a Bill from Parliament in order for it to become a law.

Hardly a titular position regardless of who gets to make the most decisions.

Dude, really?

From your own link

The result today is that, while Queen Elizabeth is sovereign over her nation, Parliament holds the real power. The Queen can suggest or advise, but the days of the British monarch telling Parliament what it will and will not pass are long over

and

One of the most obvious duties of the British monarch is walkabout. Walkabout is the name for the tours, openings and appearances Queen Elizabeth makes all over her country, and anywhere she visits

I didn't say powerless, I said mostly a title. Aka a public figure, mostly there for looks and popularity.

Good grief it's not even worth argueing. I'm sure we learned all this stuff in high school. Back to the topic on hand.

Flamey.......

It just goes to show you.... anyone can make a valid stand for either side of any debate, have facts and prove the other side wrong.... or right. It all depends on which stance you want to take and on which day. That's the political world, religious views and your own integrity. You choose what's best for you and get-r'done.

No one is right.... and no one is wrong, it's just who says it with the most authority that seems to get results.

That is probably the only piece of information you will ever need in life. Live your life as cleanly as you can, try not to create any waves and don't tell stories or spread gossip and you'll go far in life..... at least people will respect you for being yourself.

I loved it.
I got up at 3am.
The hats were a trip!
It was all over by the time I had to start work.
I'd rather watch a happy historic event than a tragic one.
Love.....Jill

How come the Oamas were not invited?

Wooops

I forgot. They only invited people with CLASS! That saved the US Taxpayers about $10 for a wedding present and $20 million to transport the Obamas and their staff.
