  1. Need Help Can you print on Avery V2000

No, sadly still using my Roland Vs540....thanks for the tips, going to try Oralite, at double the price of 3m, and the nikkalite! Can you send me a PM with your supplier? thx 3M seems to have lost their little minds! 4 years ago they were discontinuing 3200, so I bought a bunch...then they...
  2. Need Help Can you print on Avery V2000

Replying to my own comment??? well, I have only run some 'no parking' signs, which seemed ok...but printing more than one square inch of red, for example, comes out horrible! Blotchy, often with dark spots where it pauses over the vacuum holes in the print bed. Just garbage! I believe our 3M rep...
  3. Need Help Reproduction Glass/Acrylic panel - how to reproduce

So if this is an old piece, sure, take it to a screen printer....any worth their salt can handle it ( not a T-shirt place!) I'm sure on the 'net there a McIntosh amp user group....post on there if anyone has done this. If the amp is a common production unit, there are probably a few guys out...
  4. Foam Lettering Supplier (in Canada)

hard to beat Gemini....you can get them painted any colour, I think you'd find it hard to beat their price doing in-house, even if you have a router, run by monkeys! ( I know, I used to run one...cut miles of foam lettering...can still taste it!) hmmm, looks like they may only do them with a...
  5. Math problem....

Flexi has that. go to the Edit menu, Job statistics, brings up a 'Details' matrix of everything you'd want to know. 2560.8 sq. inches I had to trace your bitmap and scale it to come up with these numbers.... you can export the info as a text file, perhaps that would look fancy enough for...
  6. Sign Writer expanding into Vinyl - Connecticut- Lot's to learn ! Plotter advice

Good to hear some ol dawgs are keeping the craft going!...I can't give you a name ( other than Gerber) but if there's one thing I've seen on boats, it's large, arced text on the transom. This might push you toward a larger plotter than you first think, as the overall height could push 30-40-50"...
  7. PPF Failure?

Oboy!....as a pilot and aerodynamics geek, some of us are pretty interested! I've seen serrated tape just a few thousands of an inch thick, applied to props and the wings of gliders etc.....they can trip the boundary layer, and over a large area, make quite a 'difference' in the airflow. I...

ahhhhh, ok..Yep, I apprenticed under Dave Thomas and Jim Scott in about 1987....Troy was just knee-high to a Kuwahara BMX bike! I do send the odd job your way, but of course, everyone is busy at the same time! :) have a nice hot week!

Hello RabidOne....well, when we're busy, we farm out some work, so if you want to send me more info on your operation, we can chat? always looking for a good turnaround on project signs and things, or a qualified installer to help with the workload, cabinet wraps, etc. signshop@kelowna.ca...
  10. Best Printers to replace Gerber Edge?

Some of the big label-maker outfits have smaller, proprietary thermal printers, like Brady...up to 6" wide if I recall. Might just fill the gap needed for those odd white jobs! I also have an Edge FX that just won't play nice with Flexisign...prints one job, then just refuses. Typical Gerber...
  11. Kelowna

I run the City Sign Shop ( careful how you say that....) for the last 17 years. Pretty much a small commercial sign shop, with a heavy dose of traffic, regulatory, events etc. I've worked at half of the shops in town over the last 40 years. What are you up to? :)
  12. SAV graphics with laminate not adhering well.

The 'wetting agent' is well-named. The ONLY purpose of putting a few drops of soap in your spray bottle of water is to change the surface tension character of the water...you want a continuous film of water, so that the adhesive doesn't bond prematurely, before you have a chance to move the air...
  13. Blacking out existing acrylic faces (what paint?)

I"ve seen them rolled with a few coats of white latex....BADLY! I agree, exactly who's idea is paint? Get the owner of the business to sign off on it, at least! But..... Why not roll on some cheap blockout white vinyl? looks nice, can be removed when the faces get pulled down for the NEW tenant...
  14. Utility box wraps

OK, loving the discussion; I've done quite a few of these classic Econolite 'P' cabinets myself! to relate to the original post; these take me about 2.5 hrs to do a 'nice' tight wrap IN THE SHOP! Including cleaning twice, once with general purpose cleaner, then Isopropyl to degrease. We leave...
  15. Need Help Can you print on Avery V2000

My 3M rep advised that they were not going to produce the 3200 series for much longer. it's been replaced by 7310, which is much whiter, just a fine dot screen look ( still ASTM type I).....and it's less expensive. It has a paper liner, and is a bit fussy as far as heat and vacuum, but after a...
  16. High tack clear

Hi tack is not advertised, but depending on your application, I kinda like 3M IJ180c-114 clear....which is air release, so that's the best feature....takes solvent ink nicely, becomes kinda thick if you have to overlam also.
  17. Wall wrap tools?

nothing bugs me more than 3M's crazy prices for these things.....except, when you think that they only make a handful, so the R&D is not spread over very many units, and.....if your shop rate is $100/hr, can you really make one that's just as good in two hours? plus materials? ...or should your...
  18. A little help, my fellow sign gurus?

While you are matching the two fonts, that don't really complement each other, perhaps you can offer to improve the design? or even add WHAT is being offered? ;-b)
  19. Hand Held Creasing Wheel

I got my mom one of these for cards and crafts, pretty sure you can get a scoring insert to replace the blade...
  20. Unique project - need fabrication advise!

Nothing wrong with someone that wants to have 'fun' with their graphics! Ask Dan Sawatsky...Imagination corporation.....check him out! This one might work with a heat gun and PVC pipe, then just wrap green vinyl to create the dashes. DEFINITELY make it mounted on removable stakes, that drop...
