  1. Advice for starting local print shop

I bought a cold laminator to start with before forking out several thousand bucks. Turns out, it's just fine for my purposes! Others on here have this also...I have the 50 or 52" so with my printer I don't print anything over 48" if it needs to be laminated because my printer is 54". I cut 2"...
  2. Is your shop prepared for the upcoming barter system?

I looked into buying silver but you have pay taxes on it when you sell it - like 28% from my understanding. Seemed a bit risky to me. So instead I put some extra money in the stock market. Well, that took a crap the last couple weeks.
  3. Customer sent me this ad/price

I think Texas_Signmaker or Geneva Olson should take a drive and do some detective work!
  4. Customer sent me this ad/price

In Victors defense, I THINK his overall business model is geared towards selling his products on Amazon, etc. where the competition is tough and margins are slim - but he has a higher volume of customers than most of us. I think he's often literally dealing with pennies of profit but huge...
  5. Advice for starting local print shop

I laminate almost everything except any vinyl that goes on coroplast. Anything you put outside should be laminated or anything where people might be touching it etc. I like the luster laminate for inside signs. I just did a bunch for the wrestling room at school. The luster laminate just makes...
  6. Advice for starting local print shop

For me, I started with making fatheads for my son's classmates, smaller tshirt orders etc. Then I became friends with some booster club members and I now have most of the business for the booster club which includes a lot of 4x8 signs, banners, etc. You could send an email to the principals...
  7. Wrapping a 50ft tall concrete silo. Anyone ever done something similar? Pricing and time?

Well, thanks for the update! I didn't expect to hear anything about this LOL Sounds like a nightmare. Glad your brother didn't have to finish the job.
  8. background removal

This is what I use! I have trouble with golf clubs and some arms but for the most part it does a good job
  9. New Guy Opinions, Suggestions and ALL YOUR FREAKING KNOWLEDGE.....please

Don't take walk ins. By appointment only if you can. Might be a slower start but worth it!
  10. background removal

Boudica has been helping me with troubled football players sweat, zits and double chin beards for my high school banners. She does an amazing job!!!
  11. Sticker Mule needed a permit

Ya, this I don't agree with at all. The sign is one thing...the rest of it is stupid.
  12. Sticker Mule needed a permit

If a business wants to spread the word and put out Trump or Harris signs, I have no issue with that. They will still get my business. If you are going to cut the other party down and say nasty things about the people who support them, I DO have an issue with that. Penzey's Spices and Minocqua...
  13. Good Alternates to ShopVox Shop Management software

I second SignTracker! I love it!
  14. Sticker Mule needed a permit

That's A LOT of free advertising! I've seen a lot more massive Trump signs than massive Harris signs. A lot of businesses around here have the 4'x8' Trump signs and a lot of farmers have them in their fields - but I'm rural. I've noticed a lot more going up the last couple weeks. I've had...
  15. Advice for starting local print shop

A little advice...if you don't want people coming in for one 2" sticker then stick to the website and don't open up a storefront. Keep it by appointment only. Definitely get a laminator. I think you could get away with not doing installs. I don't do any sign installs but I sell a crap load of...
  16. Stay safe Florida!

Stay safe sign friends in Florida! The rest of the country is praying for you! We got my niece out of Tampa Bay Monday, she got a cancelled seat back to Wisconsin. My parents are still in Wisco. Our friends have evacuated to other areas in Florida. I feel like everyone is taking this very...
  17. Wrapping a 50ft tall concrete silo. Anyone ever done something similar? Pricing and time?

They did post of pic of the same kind of silo with a guy applying vinyl...maybe he just used that photo as an example? I never would have touched it. I really want this guy to come back now and see how it held up! (if it's not a fake post)
  18. Wrapping a 50ft tall concrete silo. Anyone ever done something similar? Pricing and time?

They did it. If you look a couple pages back the guys brother got about 1/4 of the way done and it looked really nice. I'm guessing they finished it but never came back to say one way or the other.
  19. Head striking while printing perforated vinyl.

What SignBoi said. I have HP 315 and run Briteline. I don't have a take-up reel so I clamp on a bar to keep some tension or use my hands if it's a little quickie job.
  20. Pan face vinyl bubbling 2 months later

Thanks everyone, I guess I messed this one up on a couple of fronts. I talked to the customer and told him I likely didn't let it out gas long enough and will of course replace the vinyl. He was not upset in he least, just wanted it fixed at some point.
