I have been asked to paint some letters and graphics on an interior concrete wall. The surface is bare, unpainted concrete. It appears in a photo to look very smooth. The graphic has a stripe in it which I am assuming will have to be freehand painted since tape will not stick tightly to...
We get yearly visits from the local fire marshal. They are very strict about what kind of paints you can spray if you do not have a spray booth that complies with the fire code requirements. For a small company like ours, this type of booth is cost prohibitive. We have experimented with...
A french cleat would work well for mounting. We make our own, just cut two pieces of 2x4 with mating angles. Add another 2x4 at the bottom for a spacer.
We are making a sign to go on an interior wall, size of sign approx 2'x3'. It will have LED lights to form a halo behind the sign panel. The lead wire will go through the wall up above the ceiling. Then it will connect (by an electrician) to the power from in the attic. Should we put a timer on...
I need to supply to my customer some decals to go on the body of a chemical/petroleum tank body. Need material to be resistant to chemicals. Just need one color lettering on a white background, small quantity. Who makes/sells these? Any merchants here make them?
I use a 30" Graphtec for patterns. I can't trust it for anything longer than 6' at a time because it goes off track. Partially it is the fault of the roll of paper, since it often has creases that throws things off. I'm not crazy about the constant pounding of the pounce pin on the machine or...
Curious to know why the paint is sticking to the vinyl graphic and separating from the drywall. Usually if there is a problem it is because the graphic will not stick to the wall paint due to uncured paint or low VOC paint.
I am an old time sign painter and still have my brushes but rarely use them. There is not much of a demand for hand painted signs in my area. We do a fair amount of dimensional work that requires hand painting, so it's good to be able to know how to handle a paint brush.
If it's just a temporary sign I would make two single sided signs with 4x4 wood posts sandwiched in between. The time you spend making a frame for a double sided corroplast sign will exceed the cost of making two separate signs when you figure the cost of labor to build a frame and the wood cost...
Scuff surface lightly with scotch brite type pad; clean; roll or spray latex acrylic house paint or DTM (direct to metal) paint. Been doing this for over 10 years and it works well.
Thanks for the reply. Any tips on drilling into 1/4" thick Corten - bit type? I know it will take longer than drilling into other substrates and will probably go through several bits. I'm going to add an upcharge to this quote for sure as we originally quoted installing letters to tile with...
We have a job to install 10" high letters on a Corten steel wall panel. Originally we were going to use stud mounted aluminum letters but the contractor is suggesting we apply a sealant and glue the letters using APS 500 sealant instead of stud mount. This will eliminate the aluminum/steel...
I'm designing a sign for a day care business. The building is a barnyard red color. They want "kid friendly" colors on the sign as well as the barnyard (burnt) red. I'm not good at choosing colors. I know there is a science to working with colors. I'm looking for a program where I can pick a...
