  1. Fun Situation.

We use a standard disclaimer on every proof and contract we provide that all artwork is our property unless otherwise noted, and that they agree to pay a base fee of $1,000 for any unauthorized use of our artwork. Basically if they want our design files, they need to pay for them, or have it...
  2. I am new to laminating, I SUUUUCK AT IT , I mean really suck at it. Need a video, tutorial or some veteran hacks to get this right....

True, takes time, lots of patients, and every laminator has quirks. I will say they're a lot better and easier today than when I got my first one 20+ years ago.
  3. A sign related food subject......................................................................................

There's a little store/ butcher shop that I stop at to pick up lunch... This is their Beef Bacon Cheddar Melt, good customers always pile it high for ya' :p
  4. Who makes thin chrome Mylar?

There are a lot of specialized products, many no longer available in our "eco friendly" world, so what it originally was may always be a mystery. One alternative that should be available through suppliers is Avery's SF100-846-S, it's a chrome metalized 1mil polyester film designed for this type...

Oh the headaches you'll have... But in no time you'll be an expert. There's a learning curve just like any other piece of equipment. There are a lot of variables, tension, speed, pressure, but once you find what works for your workflow and machine you won't struggle as much. RJ hit the biggest...

At least I got to enjoy 6 years of retirement, that's more than a lot will ever get to do :)

  7. tracing pen?

All you should need is accurate dimensions and a decent enough photo to see what you need to do, and draw it. I do it all the time, it's even part of my job description. No different than someone who doesn't have a vector of their logo, you get an image to work off of and draw it. If it's large...
  8. Friday chit chat about being nice...

    I'm always nice... Sort of...
  9. Strange Test Print.

Unplug the machine before you mess with those cables, especially on a Roland. They're notorious for blowing head fuses if you look at the cables wrong, and just turning off the power switch still leaves current going to things.

Meanwhile back in reality. While their men were away lettering windows in a wool suit on a hot August day... After an hour or so of taking care of the finite area of the house, they'd be on the veranda sipping cocktails, gossiping about how dreamy the milk man is, and making "honey-do" lists for...
  11. Diamond/quilting pattern adheasive vinyl look

You won't get a vinyl that's embossed, the only way to replicate that is get embossed metal and paint or wrap it in a matching color. If you just want something that'll resemble it. Make a diamond the same or desired size/ color, add highlights & shadows, replicate & tile the diamonds to the...

My waist grew an inch a year while I was retired... It ain't goin' back down as fast as that since I went back to work :(

Always found it fascinating how back when people rode horses on dusty dirty unpaved streets, before vaccum cleaners, washers & dryers, showers, they always dressed nice... Today we ride in cars with micro air filtration, everything is paved, so sanitary, and we dress like slobs.
  14. Super Noob HANGING SIGN

I live by the "cover your butt" philosophy. All it takes is for a town that's lax to get someone new in charge, and start fining everyone who didn't get a permit, or for anything that's not up to code. Around here, fines are levied per day/ per violation, would rather have a permit, and a signed...
  15. Not entirely sure................................................................??

No... It's not air egress. I use it occasionally, it's pretty thick stuff, great for decals & lettering on flat surfaces, ok for simple curves, but a PITA on tight compound curves. As far as wet applying, don't give it more than a very light mist, just enough to help, not actually wet. Too wet...
  16. Roland VP540 Cleaning when printing

It's been a minute since I worked with Rolands, so I'm going off of old man memory, but if that's off, then it's probably trying to pump up ink. 4 main causes. 1) Wrong aftermarket ink (rule that out since you don't use them) 2) Air in an ink line. If it was that you'd probably have some print...
  17. Roland VP540 Cleaning when printing

There's a setting in one of the menus for Periodic Cleaning, think it's in the sub-menu. Set the value to "none", that should stop it.
  18. Got this complaint....

He's worried about it coming off in a storm or snow? Should bring this guy up here to north central Wisconsin to see how well that "tape" holds up in snow, storms, wind, rain, frost, ice, sleet, +100 to -40 degree temps.
  19. JV33 -DX5 printhead differences

The SS21 inks are in fact eco-sol, that's what we use in our Mimaki. I'm pretty sure (but not positive) that Mutoh and Mimaki use the same voltages, so the connector color is probably the reference if the same part number is listed for both. Those would be unlocked heads, hence the use of...
