the 550 series are very old, and very early tech. I believe there's also quite a few NLA parts on those too. Due to the age, there's going to be a lot of fragile ink lines and components too. If it's dirt cheap, then why not. Hopefully low SQM too.

That's how canned profiles work. You can get a canned profile, re-linearise them and they can be excellent. As canned profiles made by a reputable company are usually better than what most people can do with limited knowledge.

what did this guy actually do? Did he bring his spectrophotometer, read patched and create a profile for the stock you're using? Because it sounds like there's some misunderstanding or miscommunication going on. A profile / Media profile is for 1 stock and print mode. Example. Avery MPI2000...

Are you printing with the same settings he did? If you create a media profile, it's only for the same stock & print speed as the profile was created for.

It's very rare for anyone to use an express mode (fastest print mode) It generally looks crap.

+1 "Spot healing tool" in photoshop. Easy and fast. Also you can use the magic want tool and press "select subject" on the top menu. and it'll mask the subject. In a few clicks, i did this. You could even record a script to do this for multiple images. as long as they're similar.

Nope. UV printed ACM is short term. 2-3 years before fading. We find ours are pretty durable. Applications vary, upto what the customer wants.

Have you not tried?? You have the equipment. buy a sheet. print on it, and see the output you get. We print ACM on our flatbed a lot.

Well depends what brand... But very well - better than latex & solvent. UV R2R can do backlit, day/night (3 layer), some can do 5 layer (double sides 2 images). and so on.

I think these issues are specifically for your fluidcolor brand flatbed... They can be a bit loud. All substrate must lay perfectly flat in order to print - uneven surfaces come out fuzzy, head crashes can be expensive... They have a large footprint and specific electrical needs (no 120v...)...
