  1. TBT Carved sign

Saw this a few weeks ago. One of the earlier HDU carved signs we did, maybe 25 years ago? Carved, gilded, smalt background, aluminum columns. Holding up well.
  2. Painting aluminum blanks?

How about upgrading them to reflective? Probably end up costing less to buy pre sheeted yellow reflective blanks than deal with sheeting yourself or painting.
  3. Digital billboard

Look at the codes FIRST...why waste time if it's not allowed?
  4. Painting aluminum blanks?

There are suppliers of Yellow blanks. Depending on size and quantity, if I had to start with prepainted white blanks, I would sheet with yellow vinyl, spray with a good acrylic enamel, or last choice roll with yellow enamel.
  5. Signs2Trade

I agree Marlene, bring back the labels!
  6. Help with Spectratone or Pantone Colors

There is way to print a spectratone chart of you own, don't remember how I did it, it was years ago. And getting a PMS book is a must in this business, so you at least know what you're shooting for. That being said I would sub it to a wholesaler, lot less time, aggravation and cost.
  7. Signs2Trade

    Same prices?
  8. Poor Templates

I use their patterns only on jobs that are "average". If I have a job where there is any concern about the precision of the install we make our own pattern. I have never dealt with adding studs to metal letters, though we have done it on plastic ones
  9. PVC cleat to mount 4x8 PVC Panels - Questions

I would do two cleats, about 94" long and use PVC glue. If you're worried about accuracy install the top one first, hang the sign and mark where the bottom one goes.
  10. Retractable banner stands

Testrite makes a great product, they're Made In USA, and really solid. If the client is going to change out the banners a lot that's what I use. I've also used Signs2Trade and Signworld and was satisfies with both.
  11. Price check

I agree with roshmoss, the frame could be anything from a couple pieces of angle straight across to a shaped and fitted frame. That could cost more than the sign itself.
  12. Initial logo idea - let the fun begin

Since this post is 4 months old maybe the OP could show how the logo turned out.
  13. pan molded signs face reuseable?

Like everyone has said, too many variables to say for sure. But if it's a white face lettered with vinyl it's definitely worth a try. Just be sure the client understands that it may not work, and the face can even break during the attempt.
  14. Presidential debate...let's hear your thoughts

"Wealth is created by production." Really? Is that what all those hedge fund managers do? Produce something? How about all the CEOs who trash a company and walk away with 10s or 100s of millions? What was it they produced? And those are the same ones who can structure their income to avoid...
  15. Where can I buy this?

Do you want a frame like that that holds the sign, or just an angled mounting set up? If you can't find pre-made, and want a frame, buy a frame and have a local shop weld a post to it at an angle. Or if you just need the mounting have them fabricate the while thing.
  16. Paint?

If it's not a too big I prefer sheeting with vinyl. If we have to paint we scuff with a scotch brite pad, clean and paint with a good oil based enamel. We prefer to spray, for the nice smooth finish you get. Rolling is acceptable, though you may end up with a bit of texture.
  17. You guys recognize that machine?

Yep, Summa. A thermal printer great for spot colors like that
  18. china trying to steal my domain name

Sounds like a scam to me also, even if they have the capacity to register the names. Why would they bother contacting you? These things are usually done "blind" online, without anyone actually being involved.
  19. "New" pet peeves

Insist on a big LLC or INC is definitely another. I actually like having the www. just to balance the three letters on the other end
  20. sign stand for 27" x 72" composite aluminum sign

I've used the one from Testrite, not cheap but a great product.
