  1. Trying to age a newly painted sign

If you're not worried about wrecking the finish on the door go for it. I'm surprised the laquer thinner didn't do more.
  2. Trying to age a newly painted sign

Yea, it's really better to work the aging in as you go.
  3. Advice on sandblasted mdo sign

I hope you meant HDU. Since sandblasted signs are usually at least 2.5" thick you can use brackets into the edge, studs on the back or a cleat
  4. Second Sign, First 3D Carved

I would flip the hops so the points are up and in. On second thought no, looks like an artichoke that way.
  5. Digging Equipment.............................

I've tried renting gas powered augers, never been real happy with the results. We have too much ledge and rocks around here. I have subbed out a job or two to a company that has a truck mounted auger.
  6. Level or Parallel for parking garage signage?

Sometimes level doesn't look level, as an old sign painter you should know that mechanical solutions don't always apply to visual problems.
  7. Level or Parallel for parking garage signage?

the eye doesn't lie, well actually it does. It's a judgement call that has to be made with the client's approval.
  8. Huge Project, Need Advice

From your description (but without actually seeing the design) I would suggest painting the design directly on the wall. A good wall dog can do what you are describing, of course the halftones would be rendered as fades, no dots.
  9. First Dimensional Sign

I agree with the critiques regarding fonts, arcs, kerning and spacing. The finials are kinda dinky, Outwater Plastics has some nice big ones that I use on 6"x6" posts. But you did a fine job on your first carved/gilded project. If I could find my first I would be embarrassed to post it. Of...
  10. Bus Wrap Design

I like Pat's idea, maybe a vintage photo of a brewery
  11. Bus Wrap Design

    looks like pee...
  12. Bus Wrap Design

I guess you don't want to make any major changes so I would take the advice about kerning, highlight the skyline a little more (i missed it too) and find a different texture for the background, it really doesn't look "beery". What about a hops & barley design?
  13. Jesse Hill - J Hill Designs- needs your thoughts and prayers

It's amazing how you get to know someone through this place without ever having met, and Jesse has always struck me as one of the good ones. Prayers from here for his recovery.
  14. Double-sided Wooden Sign with Panels

    Agree, way too cheap
  15. Installing 4 x 8 outdoor sign

I was being facetious.... An .040 aluminum panel screwed to a wall generally looks cheap, all wavy and pocked where fastened. I would do a 3mm ACM on an aluminum tube frame and clips to fasten, add a nice raised border to make it look even better.
  16. Square.com raising rates

I was just considering switching to Square. Isn't that still cheaper than a lot of others? And no terminals to deal with.
  17. Installing 4 x 8 outdoor sign

.040 screwed to wall? Why not a banner?
  18. Help- my 5500ps is dying... what to replace it with????

I have had no problems with either the z6100 or z6200.
  19. Help- my 5500ps is dying... what to replace it with????

If that is your only machine I would seriously consider getting a newer (used or refurb) model. Parts are getting harder to find and the problems start getting closer together. I know, I used up three 5000 series HPs and even though I got proficient at repairing them I found I made more money...
