I have a Highway Handyman laminator and love it. I can lay a 4'x8' in a couple of minutes. Speeds up production. Costs around $2000 and well worth it. Search YouTube for a video I made using it.
I use Solvex perf from Fellers and overlam with 3m 8518 gloss. No problems whatsoever and a lot cheaper than Clear Focus and 3m perf. Clarity is actually pretty good.
I have had my XC-540 for 4+ years now and love it. I run it 8-10 hours/day with no problems. I have had to replace heads and other consumable items but nothing to worry about. Definite workhorse and without a doubt the best piece of equipment I have in my shop.
I would definitely recommend it.
Have you tried wiping surface down with 3M Prep Solvent 70? Follow up with rubbing alcohol. That is what we normally use for chalky surfaces and have had good luck.
I have been using Signvox as well and love it. Also came from Activity. As soon as a job is completed, I invoice it and email the customer a copy all with a few clicks on the keyboard. It goes straight to A/R and the clock starts ticking for receivables. I do not mail out invoices anymore...
I just print on regular Oracal 3640 decal and call it a poster. So much easier and faster than messing with profiles trying to get paper to print decent without any blocking.
I used to own one and was very glad when it left my shop. Broke down a lot with every issue imaginable. I would not wish it on my worst enemy.
If you buy it what is going to happen for service? Is Gerber going to have to fly someone in? Have you checked the price for replacement heads or...
Matt,
Since the latex printer has a pretty high heat setting do you ever have issues with material shrinking up too much before you do the separate contour cut?
I appreciate your response earlier about being able to stack 2 sided prints. Right now I have to put a sheet of paper between prints...
Question for people who print on banner material. I currently print banners on my Roland XC540 and have to be careful when I roll them up after they have been printed so ink does not touch itself until it completely dries. Are the prints dry enough on the latex printer where you do not have...
I've been using SignVox now for 2 months and love it. There is a job board which shows all of your jobs and where they are at and you can do all of this from your iphone, ipad or computer.
There is online proofing and you can see whenever you customer views the proof. The customer can make...
Maybe your cyan head is going out. Whenever I ended up replacing heads the prints would look fine at startup then start printing bad a little further in the print. Also make sure your ink cartridges are not empty. Sometimes we have gotten incorrect ink levels which have created problems...
Just downloaded measurements and dimensions pro. Nice app for taking photos in the field and adding measurements to them and emailing to my art department.
Whenever hiring someone I look for longevity who has worked at their last job for 3+ years or doesn't jump around much. If you see their resume and they have a new job every 6 months, there is a good chance it will happen to you if you hire them.
We letter a lot of boats and use intermediate vinyl. If there is a full color graphic we will print on oracal 3640 and overlam with 210. Never had a problem in 7 years.
