  1. What print media are you using for vehicle graphics?

I've been using 2-4 rolls per month of Avery MPI 2923 with DOL2000 laminate since it's release a couple of years ago. Outdoor signs, flat and simple vehicle curves, almost always full bleed, and 0 issues.
  2. Photoprint is driving me crazy!

I ditched Photoprint for Caldera and never looked back.
  3. Looking at a new printer!! Water Based - What do you have? DO YOU LIKE IT!

I think your idea is excellent, good luck. I wish I had thought of buying a 5k printer and just hoping for the best, rather than being a sheep and buying a proven machine designed for the industry. It surely takes an out-of-the-box thinker like you to show up the rest of us!
  4. Problem importing to Versaworks

The issue is caused by the drop shadow effect of the white box overlaid on top. Need to fully flatten in Illustrator or change the rendering intent (I don't think you can in Versaworks though).
  5. Opinions? new shop van wrap

I like option A, the business name is the main feature and the light blue ties in nicely around the back of the logo. I question whether a phone number is really necessary though.
  6. Latex media

Yeah we pay about 1/4 what we were for solvent poster paper. Or even on pounce paper if you want to print stuff like scale plans or templates for in-house use.
  7. Windshield curvature?

We just lay a long ruler across the top of the windscreen, butt it up against the rubber at the centre, and measure the gap left at the sides. In Illustrator draw a box with those dimensions eg, 40mm x 1000mm, type the text so it sits on the top of the box, then arc until it touches the bottom...
  8. Latex media

The only 2 media I've had difficulty printing with my L260 is the Avery MPI 2050 translucent and banner vinyl. Otherwise it'll print on a wider range of media than my Rolands.
  9. FB500 Lamp Hours/Power

I'm up to 700 hours on my first set of FB500 lamps. It's pretty subjective to tell whether the ink is still curing as best as it could, at what point do others increase the lamp power to account for the diminishing output with age?
  10. 2 printers running on versaworks

I've had 3 Rolands running off Versaworks previously, 2 over IP and 1 USB. They were all able to print simultaneously. We've since sold one of them in favour of larger HP printers, but I've still got Versaworks installed as a back up for Caldera for the remaining two XC540s. Here's a few...
  11. HP L260 RIP Choice

+1 to Caldera, I was using SAI Photoprint previously and SAI Pixelblaster before that.
  12. Roland + New Caldera RIP = custom prfiles?

I profile my Roland with Caldera Easy Media and use the i1 Basic Pro 2. I typically measure 612 swatches and it only takes a few minutes, something more automated would be nice but they're also expensive. This spectro + Caldera optioned with Easy Media is all you need.
  13. HP L210 Delivered Damaged

Wow, tough customer. They've been good to you for years, found a solution to the problem (which wasn't necessarily their fault) in under a week, and now you want to take your business elsewhere? I hope you'd be willing to accept the same attitude from your own customers.
  14. Arlon DPF6000 XRP Printer Settings

My settings are: Dry 55 Cure 105 Vacuum 25 Air 35 Total Ink Limit 180% You're welcome to try my custom profile. I've learnt a bit since making it so I'll probably do a new profile when I get a chance, but it still seems to work quite well. I tried to upload it but it's too large (even though...
  15. How much to charge for printing?

For me, calculating for materials costs plus labour is too inconsistent. Could you really estimate exactly how long it'd take you to make 48 signs, and be confident that you'd estimate the same amount in 3 months time? Or accurately estimate time to print and produce 1000 die-cut stickers for an...
  16. Shafted on a quote, what to do?

I think most here would have experienced the same situation. Our salespeople are quite upfront in asking about budgets, expectations, what's important to the customer, etc., but we still have situations where the client is adamant that they want X but a month later you drive by and they've been...
  17. For sale signs

Sale prices are pretty comparable dollar for dollar Aus to US. My standard retail price on 5mm corflute would be $2400+GST ($10 ea + $0.50 per eyelet). Materials cost approx $2.85 ea. Before we got a flatbed our pricing was similar to yours, perhaps as low as $17 per corflute + $0.50 per eyelet...
  18. Profiling a L26500

I've only had that once where I think I wasn't paying attention and scanned a wrong row. Just go back a step and try again. I'm usually around 170 ink limit on SAV, and I restrict the light inks more heavily than Caldera suggests.
  19. Profiling a L26500

You should be set up similar to my pics. >Place the printed chart in the holder with the ruler underlining the first line to be scanned >Scan the white tile >Position the i1 to the left of the black line in the holder >Click and hold the button for a second >While continuing to hold the...
  20. Profiling a L26500

Hmm, exact same setup as me but I haven't had that message. For me it's as simple as starting on the left of the line, clicking down the button and pausing for a second, then taking 2-3 seconds to scan across the page.
