  1. How low can i run my ink in HP FB700

As an example, cyan, magenta and light magenta were all reading 0mL remaining last week. Since then I have printed 100 8x4' corflute sheets and it's still not asked me to replace any of them. I cut open the boxes and I'd estimate that the Lm had at least 10% of the bag remaining when it was...
  2. Installing a 15ft Banner

I know it's done now, but can't you get your banners finished with ropes sewn in top and bottom? That's how we'd always do it, hanging banners longer and deeper than that. This is a horrible site, but to show an example...
  3. How to turn down unprofitable jobs?

Still not worth it for me against the 99 other time wasters we'd lose money on. Your business may be set up differently to mine and you can make money off them, but if I did $20 jobs all day then I'd have to do 40 of them every hour of the month before we'd start to turn a profit.
  4. How to turn down unprofitable jobs?

Yes, obviously we're not charging $100 minimum for businesses, it's just a policy we can chose to enforce with these types of retail customers. Many people are too scared because they believe "small fish become big fish", which is a load of crap because 99% of these customers will never want...
  5. Art Charges

Exactly, either you build it into your standard price, charge your shop rate for the total time taken to do a job, or you list materials and design separately. Either way you've got to charge for it or you'll go broke. I changed the way we price a few years ago to charge artwork separately, as...
  6. How to turn down unprofitable jobs?

We've got a $100 minimum on retail jobs that we enforce with jobs like this. If it truly is something simple then we may do it for less, otherwise we tell the customer up front about the minimum order value and if they're put off we explain that we deal mainly in larger B2B jobs, but we're happy...
  7. Art Charges

I wish I was with Bob, still living in the 70s.
  8. How to get more sales?

We've done at least 200k through BNI referrals over the past few years, very worthwhile if you can fine a good chapter.
  9. Is it this easy to remove vinyl ?

My Spandex rep was telling me about this a few weeks ago. I've got a few fleet removals coming up so I'll be interested to see how it goes vs a steamer or zapper.
  10. RIP Software / ICC Input Profiles

We print mainly vector graphics and only a very small percentage of photos, so I've got both set to relative colorimetric to avoid transparency issues.
  11. New flatbed advise

We've been running our HP FB500 for 2 years with no issues. A sensor was replaced in the first few weeks and the touch screen needed replacing a few weeks ago but I was able to continue operating while HP shipped me a new one at their cost. Sticks great to coro and PVC, aluminium composite...
  12. In Stock Vinyl vs. Ordering

We typically avoid these sort of jobs but I'd be at about $150+tax if the layout was very basic, additional artwork if I anticipate that they'll want to make changes, have to trace a logo, etc. I don't really change the price for in stock vinyl vs ordered in, except that they'll need to pay for...
  13. Affixing To Fibrecement Buildings

I'm not sure if the same building material is common in the US, but around here there's a fair number of buildings constructed using compressed fibrecement sheeting and it's always posed a problem for us choosing suitable fixings. Smaller guage button or countersunk screws just chew out the...
  14. How do you handle this?

Yeah a PO is for their own tracking purposes, it really means nothing to you as it's not a guarantee of payment. You've done the right thing in not proceeding, if they've got such a problem with paying a deposit then the red flags would already be flying in my mind. Our policy is: 100% for...
  15. Too much in receivables

130k+ here, argg. We were north of 200k two years ago though until we brought in new payment policies. The difficult ones to collect are those where we've installed on site and it takes 30-90 days to get the balance rather than immediately after completion like it should be. For jobs being...
  16. Cheap Vinyl/lam? tell me why not to use it.

I'm not opposed to using smaller manufacturers, it's just difficult to know how the vinyl is going to last in the long term. The year before last one of my suppliers sold me some polymeric calendared laminate that shrunk back about 5mm on every sticker we produced with it. The same can go for...
  17. What's Your Method of Color Registration

We'd sometimes use clear application tape but usually just paper and that applying the layers one-by-one on the vehicle leads to the best finish. I typically use squares in the corners, sometimes triangles if it's a pattern so that it's easy to tell which way is which.
  18. guillotine cutter?

Up to 4' we use a treadle guillotine which replaced a Keencut, longer than that we use a CNC router. 8' would be nice if we had the space, but then we'd wish we had a 10', and so on.
  19. How low can i run my ink in HP FB700

I'm not sure I've got it, I'll have to check today. If that's the case there's not much you can do except replace the ink, but often it will run until it's completely empty (it'll just stop and eject part way through a print).
  20. How low can i run my ink in HP FB700

Open up the box and keep an eye on the amount left in the bag. The first time I replaced on at 0% then opened the box before throwing it away I was horrified at the amount if ink remaining. Sometimes I'll forget and it runs out completely, no biggie unless you happen to be printing an expensive...
