  1. 54" Roll material rack

I've got 40-50 rolls of 54" material so not enough wall space for a rack like that. Instead I use the Yellotools Twister stand which makes it pretty easy to get to all the rolls.
  2. mirror chrome vehicle wrap

No I was in my own track car. The v10 sounds unreal. There were two LFAs there actually, his mate was also there in a white one.
  3. mirror chrome vehicle wrap

I attended a track day with this Avery chromed wrapped LFA and while it looked great from a few metres, up close you could see all the fine scratches even though it was laminated. I think it's wrapped matte yellow now though.
  4. Phototex Outdoors Suitability

I found at that the wall is black as well so Phototex isn't really suitable as we don't get the blockout version here. I think I'll just use a short term removable vinyl if the job comes through.
  5. Phototex Outdoors Suitability

The purpose is for a sporting ground sponsorship on a painted wall so it needs to last 2 years and be removable afterwards. I don't mind liquid laminating if I have to, but the inks themselves fading shouldn't be a problem in that timeframe. The alternative we've used before is GF 201HTAP but it...
  6. Phototex Outdoors Suitability

Can anyone share whether they've been successful or not in using Phototex S printed with Latex (L26500) in an exposed outdoor position? Laminated or unlaminated? I did a bit of a search here and found mixed responses, mainly in relation to solvent printed Phototex.
  7. 3M or Avery

Yeah they're Ex-GST prices from AVS. I've requested prices from HVG, and Spandex no longer sells 3M. I've been onto the phone to the supplier and it seems Avery is aware of the problem as they've got some "Latex Optimised" media in Sydney that has been tested to work ok. They're going to ship...
  8. 3M or Avery

The cost is so high every time though as I've got to buy another roll at almost $1000+GST while they process the claim. 4 rolls in 4 months all from different batches is too much, but 3M want $1450 for an IJ180/8518 kit, $1650 for an IJ480/8548 kit, and Oracal is about $2000 for a 3951GRA/290G...
  9. 3M or Avery

I must be doing something wrong, a new roll of Avery MPI1005 and more problems. It's printed fine for the first third of the roll then it just started with problems all of a sudden. They were the least noticeable when I cranked the heat to 120oC drying temp 12 pass, but still apparent. Then it...
  10. 3M or Avery

Wow, that's a lot of effort to go through. Luckily I had a 60" roll to swap in and it printed fine. The 3 rolls I sent back were from batches at least 3 months apart which is worrying too.
  11. 3M or Avery

I changed from Arlon DPF6000XRP a few months ago to Avery 1005 EA RS and my installers are very grateful. I've had some serious issues with quality though, I've had to return 3 rolls all from different batches due to contamination, the surface just wouldn't accept the latex ink. I'm pretty...
  12. Lifting media rolls

I use a cotton gloves to prevent dirt, oils, etc from handling, Yellotools speedclips to hold the rolls tight, and Yellotools Twister stands for the print media. I dust with a Swiffer when loading and can start printing from the front of the roll every time. I've never seen a mark or dent from...
  13. FB500 Lamp Hours/Power

I did increase the lamp power at around that 700 mark, and just replaced both lamps last week just shy of 1000 hours as the system kept throwing up a low current error.
  14. brown spot on new uv lamp

I replaced my two FB500 lamps this week and there was an information sheet in the packet saying that the brown marks are normal as the lamps are tested in the factory.
  15. Experience with liquid laminates?

I've used it for a couple of banners before but as AF said, I can't see it being very practical when laminating a roll of vinyl in a day. I would love a UV curing liquid laminator though.
  16. Comparison - Versaworks, Caldera, and Onyx

I thought this may be a problem as I've only ever used PCs before, but I just bought a standard Mac and it runs Caldera so smoothly compared to ever other RIP I've had. It's very stable enough while simultaneously running 4 printers. Photoprint nesting is the worst I've ever used :frustrated:
  17. How to get design on window perf to not arc after install

After so many problems with rear windows over the years we now do it exactly as Bob describes. It takes extra time but guarantees a great result and less redos. Luckily we have a latex printer so can trace, adjust artwork, print and fit in a short time frame.
  18. Customers are so ignorant...

I'd keep playing along. Your position may be different but for me I'd let them know they can purchase sheets in the nearest capital city (about 2 hours away) or have them freighted at a cost of $80. Then they simply need to use their $70000 CNC router to cut them to the exact shape, and drop...
  19. Comparison - Versaworks, Caldera, and Onyx

Something like Photoprint/Flexi are probably most comparable to Versaworks, Caldera and Onyx are a step above. I think Caldera cost us about $7000 (with Grand format drivers) and it's been worth every cent, but we run 4 printers off it so YMMV.
  20. Pricing 4x4 signs?

Good on you for sticking to your guns. In that circumstance we typically say "we appreciate your business, but we're not willing to do work at a loss." My pricing (flatbed) would be $47 ea based on a quantity of 20, or $42 ea based on the total amount of 40.
