I employ a low-tech solution for this (I have a friction feed plotter as well)
When I load the vinyl, I will line up the vinyl with itself before locking the pinch rollers. As long as you don't need to cut anything longer than 5 or 6 foot long lines you should be fine. Anything longer than...
MY office is at Starbucks!
I started in 2005 in my garage, went through a divorce and sold my equipment in 2007. I took a few years off, deployed with my National Guard unit, did freelance design work and work a 2nd shift job. I got back into signs in February of this year...
Are any of my fellow Signs101 members up to speed on intellectual property rights?
I'm working on a design for a client which started as a local anti-bullying campaign but has the possibility of going national. The character/mascot I have designed has become quite popular locally and the...
Believe me - Algerian is not my first choice... they were very specific that it look "old-time" but not "western". The tagline is supposed to be a "modern" font. They want to illustrate their commitment to old world craftsmanship yet they want consumers to know they are new and have not been...
Target drinker (I think) is post-college age late 20's and up
$30 and up for bottles
Premium quality going head to head with the big names
I'd love a sample bottle for inspiration but the quality of my design might suffer the more "inspired" I become lol
I'm trying to develop a brand image for a new distillery. They like the current design I submitted but they are hoping to refine it even more. I'm currently hitting a wall and looking for your input. I have incorporated their feedback into the design below, such as the bull and different font...
Forget for a moment the innate sense of entitlement that folks experience these days where they think that an unskilled job which doesn't even require a high school education should garner more per hour than several skilled trades. I don't even make $15 an hour at my "other" job which is a...
I agree with Visual.... you will most likely do onesie twosies on the trucks with installs spaced months apart. And if my experience proves true, they will call you at the last minute and tell you they need 2 done this afternoon way out in BFE and three more done tomorrow - and none will be in...
I agree. Papyrus has it's place & I secretly like it too, but logos are NOT the place for it. For the record I cringed just a bit when the movie "Avatar" came out.
The original had no effects at all and the gymnastics were at the request of the customer.
I agree about Papyrus... Welcome back to 1983 lol.
I think he is just experimenting with many different styles - hopefully I will land him on a style he likes that doesnt include papyrus.
A client comes to me with a logo request and from our initial meeting and subsequent emails came up with a tentative logo - nothing wonderful yet but a basic design direction. I've made several changes and modifications and just received an email this morning asking about changing everything...
Welcome from North Carolina.
I too learned as I went and I'm still learning 9 years later. Until recently it was just a hobby for me. If you have a budget that allows you, I highly recommend getting some training. Almost all the major vendors offer some type of training on certain things...
Honestly, because I was too lazy to change the colors. I literally spent about 2 minutes moving things around. My modification was intended for layout & placement - not color use. Perhaps tomorrow, if time permits I'll work on a Jill-worthy suggestion.
I am NOT a fan of using red and black next to each other..... it is a design no-no. Rethink it and at the very least don't trap red & black together. I also agree that the micro-print under the 66 should be eliminated entirely - folks who stop there for gas won't be able to read that part so...
I'll update this thread sometime next year.... the client told me she is spending the holidays in Europe and so not doing anything with this until mid-January when she gets back.
This was my original thought as well (though not as eloquently thought as your reply) but the client gave specific instructions which make for terrible design. I'll probably put this regurgitation next to my own design and see what their thoughts are. Once they see their ideas on paper they...
