  1. Suggestions Want to automate our manual sheet layouts somehow

I have never heard nor seen the term ‘nesting’ before. Thanks. That is exactly what I need! Dug around for Corel macros but aside from e-cut haven’t found anything else. At least I know which direction to look in!
  2. Suggestions Want to automate our manual sheet layouts somehow

I've attached one of our less crazy ones. Everything has to be laid out a certain way, so the flutes are going the right direction. We use 96" long edge flute sheets, so that makes things even more tricky to put together. Each individual item has a 5 digit number grouped with it, so when all the...
  3. Suggestions Want to automate our manual sheet layouts somehow

We're a CorelDRAW based shop, and print to 4x8 coro sheets. Lately we've been swamped with yard letter and flairs. We have a TON of new products on our site, all of which were built and prepped in Corel. Here's how we do it now: 1. Order comes thru our Woocommerce site, I grab a screenshot of...
  4. Suggestions Brainstorming for our company's new mascot?

Sign companies rarely have a mascot or recognizable branding, aside from a textmark (Signarama, Fast Signs, etc). Has anyone seen or heard of mascots/characters from a sign co, that served as the face of the company? I'm a cartoonist, and we've gone nationwide, so I'm itching to make up a...
  5. Need Help How to improve VW 5 rip performance?

We're running VW 5 on an FX8350 with 8GB ram. How can we increase performance and reduce our rip times? As a single-thread program, multi-core CPUs aren't much help, I'm assuming. Which modern CPUs have been found to be good with this version? Roland just tells us to upgrade to 6, but then that...
  6. Question Anyone used a WOOD CHIPPER to grind up coroplast drops?

We CNC cut our coro signs and contour-cut letters and yard flairs to where there's barely anything left -- you wouldn't want to use these scraps, they're too cut up. Not even the crazy crafting ladies down the street will touch it. Grinding it up we could bag it and sell it to a local plastics...
  7. Question Anyone used a WOOD CHIPPER to grind up coroplast drops?

We go through a buttload of coro, and the recycle guys charge us thru the nose to come pick up our huge pile. Anyone here used a wood chipper to grind up spent coro drops? I'm all gung-ho about it but the rest of them are worried it'll dull out the blades and stuff too quick. I'd just like to...
  8. Question Anyone replaced the dim touchscreen with brighter one? HP FB500

Curious if it's possible to swap out this hard-to-see touchscreen on our HP FB500 with one that's much brighter. I've asked our local HP techs and they just laughed. There's a VGA port near the power switch...might try that out.
  9. Suggestions Cheap(er) alternative to Corel for customers?

We're making a set of how-to videos, to show the new yard card biz people how to get and prep files for print-n-cut on our systems. The biggest obstacle is CUTLINES. CorelDRAW makes these super easy with boundary shape and the outside contour effect. AI doesn't have an easy way to do this. Do...
  10. Question Anyone use Onyx PosterShop 12 with a cutter? Camera Reg?

I'd like to streamline our workflow, and have read that Onyx supports Colex SharpCut machines -- but can't find any info how to make them talk to one another. Currently we're using OptiScout 7 and the WNC controller -- and it works okay -- the camera registration is a HUGE timesaver, but jumping...
  11. Suggestions Gotta hire employee, nervous...

We need to hire a new guy/gal to run a FB500 and our Colex 5x10 table. How did ya'll find/hire/train your people? And not get inundated with waves of desperate people -- many of whom who lie to get any job?? I've advised my boss we not post a help wanted ad ANYWHERE, but to check other...
  12. Suggestions Quieting a LOUD Colex SharpCut vac table?

Yep, the exhaust for the Colex is tucked under that big thing. We're looking into sound-absorption panels underneath and making DIY mufflers for it. Aftermarket muffs and such are either too big or won't knock the noise down enough. Can't feed the exhaust to the outside -- walls can't be cut...
  13. Suggestions Quieting a LOUD Colex SharpCut vac table?

Sorry y’all, I was asking about ways to quiet the vacuums, not the routing or knife tools. We cut a crap-ton of coroplast on it, but rarely rout anymore. The 6 table suction vacs are deafening...that’s what I want to hush
  14. Suggestions Quieting a LOUD Colex SharpCut vac table?

We have a 5x10 Sharpcut, and with the shop being so small, it's SUPER LOUD! Anybody with tips on muffling/quieting this beast? I've been looking at the acoustic foam squares on Amazon, and I'm a mind to cover the walls around the table, but what about applying foam to the inside of the exterior...
  15. Delete multiple jobs at once on FB500?

Hey guys, I know how to get into the service/advanced menus (printer's own 'Konami code'), but can't figure out how to set our FB500 to allow selecting multiple jobs for deletion. We have a LOT of old jobs on there and deleting one-at-a-time is agonizing. There's nothing on there we need to...
  16. Need Help How do you convince a local bank their logo looks like a DAYCARE?

A local credit union wants to change their REALLY nice logo with something their secretary pooped out of Word, because it's more 'community'. It. Looks. Horrid. I can't post it here because of contracts, yadda yadda. I've made some variations of it to show them, before making their HUGE backlit...
  17. Need Help Scratching/Peeling! Yikes! Lamp power for FB500 coroplast?

We have new bulbs, cleaned the lenses and shutters 100%. Maybe its the coro? Are there specific brands that do better for UV printing? Our suppliers are a crapshoot, though. Might need a new/better supplier
  18. Need Help Scratching/Peeling! Yikes! Lamp power for FB500 coroplast?

HP won't give us a straight answer of what to set our lamps to when printing Coro on Express or Indoor Signage Plus. Seems no matter what setting we use (low, med, high) the ink will peel or scratch off easily. Unless we let them sit for a day to gas out, then they don't perform so bad. But...
