I always open the file in Photoshop and save as a .tif or whatever. Re-open in Illustrator. Cutlines work then, and no weird boxes.

We had a similar problem with our FC-8600. We experimented with inserting the cutting tool into the holder a different way (so it's held down more securely by the C clamp), and that has fixed the problem. Not sure if yours is the same way as ours but thought I'd mention it as something to try...

It would be nice to be able to do that. I haven't ever figured out a way.

Interesting! :-) We recycle cartridges at Staples. They give members $2 per cartridge, as long as you're buying a certain amount of ink from them (desktop printer ink, I mean).

I've found that the little white lines don't show up in the prints. But there can be other color problems that ONLY show up in the print when I flatten transparency if there are vector elements in the file (there are invisible boxes around these elements that slightly alter the color of whatever...

I don't think we've ever had a problem with immediately laminating Roland Eco-Sol Max inks. Been doing it for 10+ years. We do wait "a while" on some things, when vinyl shrinkage could cause a problem.

When printing multi page PDF's the plotter randomly omits pages from the PDF to omit from plotting. Can't figure out any reason why other than an error when spooling up, but it has no error message and keeps right on printing with the next page of the PDF that was printed. We're having to...

Could you explain shaking down the cartridge to get more use out of it? Do you literally just give it a good shake? And is there not any danger to doing that? I'd love to get as much ink out as possible!

They can be set to do a Periodic Cleaning (you choose the frequency) under MENU>SUBMENU.
