  1. How do I cut Max Metal?

it is actually cheaper by the 4x8 than the .40 aluminum panels from Grimco. Seems to be much sturdier.
  2. How do I cut Max Metal?

Thanks for the information everyone. I tried the score/break method, and while it works it was pretty tough to get through, especially for large orders of small signs. I will try a saw later today. I think I am definitely going to offer this substrate over the .40 aluminum panels we have used...
  3. How do I cut Max Metal?

I have recently started using MAX METAL from Grimco for outdoor signage. The first few signs were 4x8 so I didn't have to worry about cutting it down. Idk if this MAX METAL product name is widely used as I can't find any previous posts about it here, but it is two sides of .15mm Aluminum bonded...
  4. Rant 3 PRINT HEADS IN UNDER A YEAR! TruVis VG-540

Well, just when I thought I had finally got over all of the issues with our Roland VG-540, it drops yet another print head. We still haven't hit the one year mark with this machine and it will make the 3rd print head to be replaced. This is not head strike related, I don't think I have ever...
  5. Does anyone recognize this fill?

Change your search tools on Google Images to Large, and you may find something in there for free that is large enough to use. If not, any stock photo website should have plenty High Res ocean photos to choose from. Powerclip into the letters and contour in green and you are done.
  6. Question Anyone running print/cut jobs between VersaWorks and VersaWorks Dual?

I use the original .eps or .pdf file depending on the art. I rarely convert anything to actual versaworks files. I have found that tiling a single decal in versaworks holds a truer cut contour than if I send it over as a bulk file. When sending to the older version of VW to cut, I just make...
  7. Ribbed trailer nightmare

You definitely needed a cast vinyl for this job. I use IJ40C myself for flat panel van graphics. As a rule of thumb, anything with ANY rivets or ridges needs to be cast. Calendared vinyl will always want to go back to flat, and will not conform to a rounded rivet without "tenting". I have...
  8. Question Anyone running print/cut jobs between VersaWorks and VersaWorks Dual?

Yes you totally can print on the VG-540 and cut on the older machine. We run a VG-540, and have a SP-540V as our backup. Although I have to have both versions of Versaworks to run both machines, it will find crop marks and cut just fine on the old SP. I've actually found that Print/Lam/Cut jobs...
  9. Tool for manually cutting stripes?

Knifeless Tape. I don't do a ton of stripe work, but when I do I choose Knifeless Tape.:) You can layout the stripe with the knifeless tape, than apply vinyl on top. The tape will cut the vinyl into your desired shape with no plotter or hand cutting required.
  10. What vinyl to use for spot graphics?

If you aren't concerned with the calendared vinyl shrinking, I would go with the Avery MPI 2903 EZ apply. It applies well and lasts for trailer graphics, not going to do you any favors if dealing with rivets though.
  11. Need help finding copyright owner on a design

I once worked in a mall for an Indian gentleman. He placed a microscopic disclaimer at the bottom of each invoice stating that the customer was giving the shop permission to use the artwork (usually pulled straight from google images) and they were responsible for any conflicts of copyright. He...
  12. VG-640 vs. S80600 + FC8600

We have the Roland VG-540. So, that is the only one I can really give any advice on. The printer is much faster than our previous Roland SP-540v, and a noticeably faster than a VS-540i that I have ran in the past. Print quality is amazing when it is firing on all cylinders, but in that lies...

  14. Would your shop take this wrap job?

Thanks for all the replies. I spoke to the owner about the issue, and he decided to turn down the job. I don't mind a challenge, but some ideas are just too ridiculous to attempt. I'm the only one that really has any experience with vehicle graphics in general, and I have wrote a few checklists...
  15. Would your shop take this wrap job?

I went the stock photo route with my first proof, but could not wrap my mind around how to show a panoramic mountain range, while at the same time showing a cabin and small things such as a moonshine jug. Vastly different perspectives combined into one coherent image. I'm the only employee of...
  16. Would your shop take this wrap job?

A member of our sales team brought me a order for a wrap last week. Full cab wrap on 2017 Dodge Ram, leaving the bed of the truck white. All art is to be designed from scratch, nothing was provided, and the following is the customers request: "A tribute to the Appalachian area. Please include...
  17. Starting My Own Shop...

Yes...8 years - $13/hr.....first 7 years were at a smaller shop, and around a year and a half here. The reasoning I'm always given as to why I can't be paid more is "the West Virginia economy". The only reason I was able to buy my home, is the fact that I bought it from my grandmother and got a...
  18. Starting My Own Shop...

I have been a 1 man show employee for 8 years now. I am currently in my second shop, in which I am the entire graphics department. I have been putting alot of thought recently into starting my own business. I have always felt underpaid for what I bring to the company (both that I've worked for)...
