  1. I just launched a Kickstarter project.

OK, I get the no social media thing. I'm pretty much against it just on principles. However, if you've got a smart phone, you can make a YouTube video. No excuses.
  2. I just launched a Kickstarter project.

Where's your video? I wanna see some stuff! I back stuff on there quite a bit. I've been ramping up to launch my eco drink product. I just been tinkering with the video, then I'll post it.
  3. Printed and Cut Wall Decals

Oh yeah, they did come out with an opaque version. I have a sample roll. I think I'll print something on it.
  4. Printed and Cut Wall Decals

You cannot cut right after... ever. Have to let eco-solvent inks dry out (outgas) and the gooey vinyl get back to a more solid state before you drag a knife blade across it. You can however speed up your time to cutting by laminating. That will also help decal edges not curl. Matte or Luster...
  5. Back in Business! well almost, Now what do I buy?

Get a summa plotter, the one with the optical knife to auto cut the prints. OPOS - CAM Series. Ever think about flatbed cutters? Many, many options on the market now for those. Also, might want to consider just outsourcing your printing side for a bit. Do the cut vinyl in-house. Outsourcing has...
  6. Back in Business! well almost, Now what do I buy?

The field is wide open. And $30k if you're smart can get you really back up and running. I've consulted many sign shops back into business, and that's a good solid number I like to have my clients start with. But honestly, I can get you where you want to be with less than half of that...
  7. Comic Sans redone, it's great and it's free!

    I... can't... just... can't... *sigh*
  8. Flexi subscriptions

I know... it seems like MS paint can display graphics better. (China printers prices will go up, then they'll be more in line with what an entry level Mutoh is now)
  9. One MBIS feeding two machines - is this possible?

Ouch! Kinda what I figured. Just buy it direct: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Empty-bulk-ink-system-with-permanent-chip-for-Mimaki-JV3-SS1Printer-4tanks-8-cartridges-8-permanent/680081258.html
  10. One MBIS feeding two machines - is this possible?

Interesting idea. However, just one question: How much does a MBIS cost in the first place? Is it sooo outrageously expensive that getting only one for right now makes financial sense?
  11. Copyrighted designs in Sign Mags

Well, here's an article just a couple of months old in Sign & Digital Graphics Magazine http://sdgmag.com/article/business-marketing/make-it-your-business-trademark-and-copyright-laws
  12. Password manager recommendation

FINALLY!!! Thanks Sign Maniac! Took me forever to get into your business bank account! BTW: Thanks for the new Zünd G3 you just bought me! :Big Laugh
  13. Chalkboard Style Laserable Material?

OMG! Seriously? Chalkboard Paint at Home Improvement Store or Art Store! There are more... should I find you more? Now, this isn't specifically directed at you, sorry. But I see this a lot in the sign industry. You get a fancy new toy, and forget how to actually make signs with your hands...
  14. Flexi subscriptions

Oh, and since you mentioned about a $4k china printer... that may sound cheap. But it doesn't come with a manual, profiles or even a quick start up guide. There are no YouTube videos of how to use it. There are no real places to call or tech support to come to your shop to set it up for you. You...
  15. Flexi subscriptions

Actually if you buy the printer from China, for a flat fee of of $50 they give you PhotoPrint 10. (Which is Flexi) And you don't have to pay anymore on it. You own it, and get the USB dongle security key with it. Why would I pay any extra for features I don't use? Textile? Braille? OOOOHHHH...
  16. Flexi subscriptions

HAHAHA!! Another company dipping their toe into the subscription service model because their sales are slumping, and they are tired of fighting all the customers whining about their dongles. Seriously? Flexi has the be the most quirky, and convoluted piece of design software out there. It's...
  17. Copyrighted designs in Sign Mags

Yeah, they'd lose readership. The magazine just claps the dust off its hands a couple of times, and says, "Well, hey... it's just an editorial article. We aren't responsible for Joe's Sign Shack usage of their client's artwork. We just figured they'd have obtained the proper permission. Not our...
  18. Copyrighted designs in Sign Mags

The publishers and journalists of sign magazines don't really have anything like "Journalistic Integrity". It's usually a guy or a group that owns several publications, has a sales team that drums up advertising, and fills their editorials and timed press releases, and industry fluff articles...
  19. Good avery vinyl!!!!

I only lost 2 clients from the Avery disaster. Both were early on in the relationship and both were fleets. I was very embarrassed, and peeved that I lost those contracts. At the time I didn't know it was an Avery issue, and kept beating myself up for maybe incorrect installation methods, maybe...
  20. Good avery vinyl!!!!

Store Credit? HAHAHA! Was that enough to buy a roll of Oracal? Should call up and see if you can still get your store credit!
