I run a 3420 on a seal 54 base on the regular, the backing does seem to peel a bit "less-rigid" I guess but never had that issue posted while laminating.

Currently we design on Mac, and run onyx on a seperate PC, as well. Files are saved on our network, and readily accessible from either computer. if you wish to control your RIP, that runs on a PC, from your Mac... RemoteDesktop or TeamViewer are easy solutions.

silicone to paint? gosh, i've only had issues with vinyl to paint that's still outgassing. I think with tape&silicone there's room to outgass-around as opposed to fully-sheeting a "wet" wall with a full-field mural. The wall should be dry enough to tape up your mounting pattern anyways, so...
