  1. Going throught Magenta

You will go thru Magenta and Yellow at approx. 2 or 3 to 1 to that of Cyan, and likely about 4-to-1 for black. Doesn't seem to make sense as to why, but that is very typical.
  2. Laminator... opinions

Well, I don't recommend getting by on the cheap with a laminator (as I've done), but the DingTec is about that price. Yeah, it works okay and we've managed to get by with it, but I'm really considering getting a real laminator with take up reels and the like, and using this strictly for...
  3. How much are you paying for you liter ink?

I'm paying $145/L plus about $9 shipping for Triangle MLD bulk ink. I know it can be had for about $100/L if you have the right connections (which I currently don't). I'd be interested in some savings!
  4. Need help networking Roland SP-540V!!! Please!

No kidding huh? Like I said, I make no claims when it comes to networking. It is and has been working, but could take a dump at any moment for all I know. Thanks for the advice, it has been duly noted.
  5. Need help networking Roland SP-540V!!! Please!

I let all the components use DHCP, so they all choose their own addresses, with the exception of the printer which you have to set in NetTool. What I might suggest, though I am far from a network person, is to let everything use DHCP and then shut everything down. Power up the computer (or...
  6. Need help networking Roland SP-540V!!! Please!

Nope, but the printer should be a number all it's own yet still on in the same 'range' as your other stuff....i.e. 192.168.2.10 (PC 1), 192.168.2.11 (PC 2), 192.168.2.12 (SP-540), etc..... I have all mine going thru a simple switch.
  7. Need help networking Roland SP-540V!!! Please!

Have you looked at this document? http://www.rolanddga.com/rnet30/files/support/network_connectivity_xp_sp-pro2.pdf
  8. Need help networking Roland SP-540V!!! Please!

I've had that problem too where it seems to 'lose' it's identity. Came down to simply rebooting everything...printer inclusive. I don't use VW, so can't offer guidance specific to that program.
  9. Need help networking Roland SP-540V!!! Please!

What exactly do you mean by 'networking' anyway? Are you trying to access it from multiple computers? Have you installed the PrintServer NetTool? Here is a link to the Roland support site that might also give you some guidance...
  10. Graphixcalc

I am in the process of adding some significant improvements, but it likely will not be ready for public consumption for a few months yet. Some features to look for: Ability to set default values for commonly used materials, substrates, markup, etc. Ability to save calculated prices...
  11. Is RAID really worth it?

Thanks for all the feedback. Decided to keep it simple after all. Gonna just use a single smallish drive for the OS and programs (80GB), and a large one for data storage (500GB). Still, should be a pretty good machine based on what all I've got, but nothing too elaborate. All good components...
  12. Solara Ion

Yeah, that was my reaction too. Seems like extortion to me!
  13. Is RAID really worth it?

What about using 4 discs total in a RAID 10 array? Looks like RAID 10 offers best of both...speed and data redundency, but at the high cost of 4 drives and the controller. Only thing with this configuration is that the OS, programs and data would all co-exist on the same "drive" if done this...
  14. Is RAID really worth it?

Is software RAID okay to use in practice? From what I've gathered, the extra card for hardware RAID is a significant improvement over software RAID.
  15. Ok Whatcha think of this for a Design Station

How do you plan to accomplish the RAID? I don't see a RAID controller, so assume you'll use software raid off the M/B. While I am still learning about RAID, seems like hardware RAID is very much better than relying on software RAID.
  16. Is RAID really worth it?

I also considered this approach, using a single 80 GB hard drive for the OS. So, as far as the RAID 0, is that still a good idea as I've described? What about going with a RAID 0 for the OS? I know the danger of RAID 0, but where is the actual bottleneck in a system...the program access or...
  17. Is RAID really worth it?

I'm looking at buying and/or building at least one PC, maybe two. Having used Newegg for many years now, I of course go there for reviews, great prices and quick ship. So, I've configured a couple of systems, both AMD and Intel based just to see the overall price difference (which is...
  18. Intel Vs Amd

Yeah, would like to hear about some other processors. We're right smack in the middle of looking at probably two systems...one as a design/RIP and the other a design-only station. Have considered just getting 2 identical Dells cuz I can do that for about the same as one hi-end system...and the...
  19. Graphixcalc

As specifically noted on the website for GraphixCALC XL (http://www.graphixcalc.com/html/xl.html), OpenOffice does not work with it. You can force it to work, but it won't work correctly. Also, sounds like you are confusing the XL and Pro versions. There currently is no demo download of the...
  20. Convert a DOCX file?

Those are supposed to be backwards-compatible with older versions of MS Word (assuming you have Word).
