  1. Any use of "strokes" or outlines should be for print only.

Yup, that's an extreme example. But exactly what I was talking about. Liked the part where the RIP starts crying, that was great!
  2. Any use of "strokes" or outlines should be for print only.

You want to blow a designer's mind that only uses illustrator? Have them click on the Preview button, (makes it wireframe) I have had a few designers that didn't even know what the button is for. Once they see the garbage that looks great when in full color for print but impossible to cut in...
  3. Can Flexi tell you the square footage of a shape?

Mike Jackson had an article in SignCraft a few years back with that exact scenario I mentioned. He built a sign for a restaurant and figured the square footage down to the inch. Later the customer wanted to add a beam to the bottom that read "RESTAURANT". Because he had figured so accurately...
  4. Can Flexi tell you the square footage of a shape?

A good time to use this would be when pulling a permit and the town / city allows a certain size sign installed and needs to know the square footage. If you have a rectangle with an arch or some scalloped edges and wanted to be accurate as possible this would help. If nothing else you can...
  5. ADVICE

Do you have the slightest idea how signs are made? The term "wooden signs" as mentioned by others here can cover dozens of options. Yes, there are a lot of vinyl cutters, hope you find one to "suet" you. You could start with a Cricut and work your way up. Just a thought, you could pounce...
  6. ADVICE

LOL. Thought I was reading a column from SignCraft in 1990. That was great! You actually are telling the guy he needs talent to be in the sign business. How refreshing. Newbies, Just remember that phrase "no need to get equipment"
  7. ADVICE

I sincerely admire your bravery to post what you did. Search all the pages on signs101, read every couple of posts and comments, probably take a couple of months. Virtually everything you need to know will be answered. Or go to a sign shop and offer to sweep the floor for $5.00 an hour and...
  8. Backlit Sign Cabinet

S and F signs out of Alabama, they also are known as formedfaces.com. Working on a 6 x 12 painted face and UL listed cabinet for me now as I type this. I'd recommend a pan face for the 4'x8', you won't regret the few extra dollars.
  9. I should know this one!

    Aachen
  10. Billboard Banners 1 Piece - Supplier?

Copy that on Indy Imaging. Last big banner I got was 2.50 sq, ft, can't beat that. Sales rep once told me they do all the signage for the Indianapolis Colts Lucas Field. If that's true that's some BIG stuff!
  11. Oracal cobalt blue to PMS match?

I'm getting a pan face painted. Face will be blue with white lettering. I would like to get as close a match to Oracal's cobalt blue vinyl as I can (#065). What PMS color can I tell the vendor to match as close as possible to get this color? Thanks is advance.
  12. Pounce???

Pouncing is how Michelangelo painted the Sistine chapel in 4 years. Old Signcraft cartoon had him inventing the pounce wheel at the very end of the project. Check out the video. Pure genius https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nA2gui7DdE&feature=youtu.be
  13. huge Stencil

Biggest job I ever did was a storage tank (at least it was low to the ground). Artwork was around 30' x 30'. Got the artwork printed on 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper, folded it over and found the center point. Gridded it to where 1" = 1'. Laid out the grid lines and then drew everything in with...
  14. Substrate Ideas for Hanging Sign

Given the info you have told us I wouldn't touch it. I would never hang a 4 x 8 with chains only at the top, MAYBE additional chains at the bottom corners to keep it from swinging in a storm. Either do it right and build a frame to hold it, or do the sign and let the customer handle...
  15. ShopVox - frustration beyond imagination - no way to list labor as non-taxable.

Can someone explain to me how tool rental places can charge sales tax? You rent a chain saw for half a day and have to pay tax? My CPA told me you can break down any finished product labor and materials if desired. Most oil change shops do this, separating the labor from the materials and...
  16. Help what font it's ...l&l.... Thank you

I would help, but you'll have to explain what "Framming" is first.
  17. Original Gerber Edge Pictures FTP-300

Shame that engineering and technology couldn't carry over to the Maxx or their inkjet printers. I know you guys love the edge but printing at only 11.5" has got to hinder you. I know guys who have made money at it but can't understand why their other products failed so dismally.
  18. Oracal Questions

Oracal brilliant blue is the only color that has ever let me down, 3 years max is about it. I'm totally pleased with all the other colors, I mainly use 651.
