  1. What solvent printable banner do you prefer???

Ditto. Used this at two different shops on two different brands of machine. Great results, durable, can be stitched or taped.
  2. Weeding tips anyone?

Are you implying that he was searching for questions to answer? Like building street cred?
  3. Weeding tips anyone?

I don't feel the need, nor do I have the time to respond to many posts unless I feel like I have high quality and unique info to provide... besides that though, how far back did they have to go to find that post -- 2007? It must have been buried pages and pages deep in the forum.
  4. Profiling -- yeeaaaargh!

When I started at this shop profiling was unheard of... I have been trying to make a dent in improving our color quality and consistency, and want to poke my eyes out... The standard here is to print with the default media profiles that come with the RIP -- they yeild an OK print, but can put...
  5. Left or right brain?

When I first looked it was counter- clockwise, then I switched tabs in my browser and when I came back it clockwise and clockwise every time after that. I even closed the window and reloaded the page -- still clockwise. An hour or two later I went to look again and she was going...
  6. Brackets for Double Sided Signs

I really like this idea -- my biggest concern would be the risk of damaging the sign while screwing the alum to the post. How wide would the alum strip be so that one wouldn't hit the sign with your screw gun?
  7. Powder actuated nail gun...

Problems I had drilling an then using the tapcons: -Drill bit seemed to dull quickly. -If one overtightens the tapcon it seems like it "pops" and loses it's grip -Drilling into mortar - good. Drilling into bricks - bad. Causes me to lose alignment with grommets... Do you put silicone...
  8. Powder actuated nail gun...

That was my biggest fear... especially since the banner I did my field test on was on a building in a mixed use neighborhood and it was around 4:30 with the light fading fast. I kept expecting the cops to show up.
  9. Powder actuated nail gun...

So is that "Yes, I use them." From what I have read on here, I figured if anyone did it would be Mosh. I did a test first with the loads that were on hand here and they were far to powerful, so I went to our local hardware store and asked... The less powerful charge drove the nail in and left...
  10. Powder actuated nail gun...

I did a couple of searches and didn't turn anything up here... I was wondering if anyone uses a "Powder Actuated Nail Gun" to install banners on buildings -- in brick or concrete. The reason I ask is that I am still pretty new to the shop I work at currently, when I arrived here I was shown...
  11. Source for Retractable Banner Stand that is Telescopic?

I second that. Some stand come with poles in three pieces already, easy enough to use only two of them. Bannerstands with telescoping poles and locking mechanisms make me nervous...
  12. Another dumb PhotoShop question.

Second on space bar tip. Also, the pen tool is your friend.
  13. static and vinyl application

One of the places I used to work for did a lot of tradeshow, POP, and also work for artists - so we had an almost zero tolerance policy for dust and such... In my laminating/mounting area I used to run two humidifiers and I would also wet mop the floor a number of times during the day... Nothing...
  14. Banner w/ no photo glare?

Part of it is the photographer... If they set the people up so that the banner is at a slight angle in the background it wouldn't glare at all. One can photographer people in front of a mirror and not get flash glare...
  15. How long do they normally last?

    I want this on a t-shirt!
  16. How long do they normally last?

That is great pic for that! Can I steal it? (But what does it have to do with the vinyl question?) As another note, most of our customers don't seem to care that we offer printable vinyl with different lifetimes -- they almost always jump on the cheap stuff... I haven't been here long enough to...
  17. sometimes words dont look right

I just encapsulated a poster for a customer that dealt with this same kind of thing. I tried to find the text of the poster online, but this is the best I could come up with (apparently it is from an chain e-mail -- the place I grabbed it from was questioning whether it was an actual Cambridge...
  18. Laminator Sled Material

I've always used 1/2" gator, or 3/16" gator. I would think that that the cut mat would be a little too flexible... The gator is nice because it is light and rigid. I tried working with sintra at one point, but it so heavy and floppy... As far as being able to release the overhang of laminate, I...
  19. We need a bigger Shop

Chewbacca works for you? That must be such a pain when it comes laminating... an even mounting... "Damn! Another hair! Chewy!!"
  20. Sign Shop Whore

Well... if you want to count photo labs, since I moved into signage by way of a commercial photo lab that transitioned to POP and tradeshow graphics... 6. But again... photo labs included. Does it make it worse that it was over the course of 9 years?
