  1. Oracal says....Laminate reflective vinyl

We supply the decals to the customer weeded and masked so they just rub them on with a credit card and then peel off the mask. You are right - the top surface of the vinyl is gone, along with the reflective stuff in the middle. What's left is a grey film and adhesive.
  2. Oracal says....Laminate reflective vinyl

Well the timeline for the product batch is roughly the same for us. All the stuff that's failing is roughly 1 year old. We only order in 10 yard lengths usually. We don't stock large amounts...just what we need that week so it wouldn't have been sitting around our shop for very long.
  3. Oracal says....Laminate reflective vinyl

Maybe but then what's the reason for the failure on the decals on other parts of the car? Here's another photo. It's of the trunk area. The "11" is the issue. The "0" is a newer decal because it had peeled off from dirt under the vinyl - that's why it doesn't look like the "1's". The rest of...
  4. Oracal says....Laminate reflective vinyl

Gino, that's terrible! My supplier put me in contact with them so I didn't have to chase them too much. They are shipping me a roll of the 5600 which I accepted only because I'll have to replace all these cab decals at some point but I told him it doesn't change the fact that his product just...
  5. Oracal says....Laminate reflective vinyl

I wish...that would be an easy way to explain it. But no...the worn decals are on either side and the rear of multiple vehicles in different locations. Basically wherever they fit on each vehicle.
  6. Oracal says....Laminate reflective vinyl

My customer is the fleet manager so he is the one that delegates where and how the vehicles are washed. He probably doesn't watch each car but like I said before....we do a lot of cab advertising wraps, perforated, decals for this guy. We have a pretty close, easy relationship with him and he...
  7. Oracal says....Laminate reflective vinyl

And I told him I understood that there are a lot of factors that can cause vinyl to fail. I'd understand if they failed after maybe 4 or 5 years because the product says it's supposed to last for 7yrs.... but when it only lasts 1 year? That's a pretty big gap. That's when he said it's because I...
  8. Oracal says....Laminate reflective vinyl

So do we. The point was that these decals weren't printed and he still says that it was common sense that we should have laminated them and that's the reason they failed.
  9. Happens too often...

Nope. The recesses are approx. 3/16" deep. They didn't affect the text at all.
  10. Oracal says....Laminate reflective vinyl

One of my customers is a cab company. We consistently cut reflective vinyl decals for him over the last couple of years. Most of the time they are white-reflective. For simplicity's sake we buy Oracal 5600 reflective white vinyl because it is printable and fleet vehicle grade and since we print...

LocalsFind I know we've talked about this at length and I've said I do agree that if something is stationary you can get away with more information however in the scenario you just described the actual design of the vehicle wasn't the thing that enticed the neighbors to research the flooring...

Wow good eye! He is, in fact, advertising two stores!
  13. Dirt Bike Graphics

It's like asking a college professor to quickly jot down everything you'd need to learn in order to get your doctorate in psychology. I think you'll probably get a lot a flack over your thread because you seem to be under the impression that there isn't a lot to making your own decals and that...

Can't argue with you there - like I said it was just a first draft that would have been refined had he liked the direction I was going. Oh how I wish Signs101 had a "Like" button so I could simply concur to a well said reply like this without all the work.
  15. Happens too often...

Duly noted however there's no need for the nasty tone... You speak as though I've offended you somehow. The first pic is a first draft design to get a feel for the customer's tastes....it was by no means a final draft. All I had at the time was his logo and phone number and that he wanted...

I hear the self-deprecating part for sure! I was born in Timmins, grew up in Cornwall and moved to Sudbury roughly ten years ago. So if Sudbury is the armpit I'm guessing Cornwall is more likely the a**hole...you know, because of the smell lol.
  17. Unused artwork!

Oops...just realized you didn't mention if it was even vector art...ah well.
  18. Unused artwork!

Very nice! At that quality you should sell your unused vector illustrations to stock sites or...you know...make them available for free online for people like me who can't illustrate to save my life. haha But seriously though - I've heard there's not a lot of money to be made selling stock...

Thank you and I know! Gotta love designing around those big industrial eye-sores. Omg I almost choked on my lunch on that one! hahaha I've never heard Sudbury referred to as Ontario's armpit but I asked a co worker and he said that the full saying is "Sudbury is Ontario's armpit but Hamilton...

I like when others post examples of their work so here goes....the first photo is of the wrap I designed originally (simple and bright) and then what he actually went with after lots of revisions and despite my very logical reasoning against using his van as a brochure.
