More info please. What is the "graphic". A decal? White? Clear? A sign?
How are you printing the color? what printer and settings are you using?
I have a Roland vs540 and I can get that bright, yellow/green color by adjusting my print settings.
Are you saying that instead of printing it you'd...
Have you discussed with the city how they plan to use the logo? It's a nice logo but may not be practical.
In our business we have a promotional products department and I know the headaches of trying to use logos with gradients or elements that overlap. The gradients and fades in the logo would...
I'm a designer as well. I just happened to end up in sign production and it seems to suit me very well so now I do both.
I agree with your comment above completely. At some point you have to let go and let the customer deal with the consequences. If a customer paid for design and branding (along...
I think there's a difference between copying a design or layout that was made for a different company vs copying a design that was made for that same company.
The person that designed his truck originally got paid for the design and production. You wouldn't be stealing the design because...
Definitely abandon ship. Are you getting a raise for running the show? You're going to do all this extra work and have all this extra stress for the same wage and the only people that will benefit are the owners who don't care enough to do it themselves.
You'd do better opening your own shop...
We've used Avery opaque black vinyl on a backlit acrylic sign face as the background and cut out the text so that the only part that lit up was the cutout section and the black vinyl blocked the light completely. There was no wash-out effect at all. Though I'm sure black paint would do the same...
Just curious.... how does the liner factor into installation? I mean, why does the liner matter? Isn't it just there to protect the adhesive until install?
Also - can I get an example of a high performance premium film that uses a plastic liner?
But the problem isn't lifting. If you read the post or look at the pictures the decals didn't peel off the vehicle. The adhesive is still on the vehicle but the color is flaking off from the adhesive layer.
Every job is different. We sometimes make exceptions depending on the customer but we ALWAYS get approval of a quote before doing any design. Spec work devalues the design profession and reinforces the belief that since it isn't tangible it isn't worth anything.
Usually the process starts with...
Player - I don't think the question was directed at you.
When you applied the decals did you let her know that she should be hand washing the vehicle?
We always tell our customers that power-washing and car washes are a no-no. I tell them to just treat the decals like they paid a lot of for...
Same here..depends on the application. We laminate almost everything and I commonly use a luster laminate. It's a happy medium between gloss and matte for our large outdoor advertising and backlit signs. That way it doesn't look unfinished and has a bit of sheen without glare. I use it for most...
I just got off the phone with that same sales rep I spoke to originally and I have to say it was pretty satisfying to hear him say "I was wrong".
He has informed me that a tech at Oracal reviewed my claim and the photos and told him that he was wrong about the need for lamination (no kidding?!)...
Wow! That is so similar to our issue. Same sporadic wear. Everyone keeps trying to use the wear patterns as clues but like you said it's all over the vehicle and random. I'll see if my customer can send me more photos for comparison.
My supplier has suggested a different brand of reflective...
The wear on that particular decal IS odd however there are decals on the doors and trunk as well on multiple vehicles that have the same issue. They are all worn out to different degrees and in different patterns.
If I receive an Adobe Cs file that I can't open because it's a newer version I usually will just right-click on the file and choose the "Convert to Adobe PDF" option (this only works if you have Adobe Acrobat installed). The file will open as a pdf which you can save to your desktop.
Then...
So here's an update on my progress with Oracal. I received a sample roll of their 5650 reflective vinyl in the mail today along with a sample roll of the 290 Overlaminate. I didn't receive the full roll of 5600 to replace the failed decals for my customer like they said though.....
So the 5650...
Wouldn't most of those things cause the decal to fail at the adhesive level? The decals are sticking fine. No problems at all with adhesive. It's the reflective finish that's gone. Leaving behind the bottom layer and adhesive.
