  1. Greetings from Cambridgeshire UK

Welcome Rob. One of the problems is these printers are designed to be used all the time, they really arent suitable for occasional use as they don't like being left standing, or even worse, not plugged in so they don't run the automated cleaning cycles !
  2. Question Captop problem?

If you move the head out of the way and turn the machine off, fill each captop with cleaning fluid, then turn the pump manually by hand and make sure the cleaning solution is sucked out of the captap fully and evenly on both sides. If the lines to the pump get clogged at all, or the y-piece...
  3. Hi, Newb with a software question

I have used Corel Draw for over 20 years for design. Any vector software is fine for what you need, although I find Corel more intuitive mainly because I learned on that in the first place. I actually still use X3 as my main design program, you dont need a really new version of a vector design...
  4. Roland FJ50 problem service mode.

Are you doing it with the subpower off ? it should be plugged in and turned on at the wall, but not turned on from the front panel. Press the 3 direction keys together then while holding them press the power button on and it should work
  5. Roland brand SL-CL Cleaner questions...

Yes no problem at all doing this.
  6. Question bad encoder strip cause banding? head replacement cause heater issues?

The strip should be fine as long as the sensor doesn't hit it at all when it passes. The spring is only there to keep the strip taut. If it is loose you can detach the strip from the clamp on the right hand side, make a new hole a bit to the left of the old one and use that to hold it in the...
  7. Question bad encoder strip cause banding? head replacement cause heater issues?

To expand, overspray normally gives a fuzzy edge around things fairly consistently and can often be from a worn print head with deflecting nozzles. What you have looks more like the head isn't turning on and off properly when printing, so some nozzles are continuing to fire when they should be...
  8. White Ink printing: which one is hands down the best?

Definitely avoid solvent white if you can. It kills printers and unless you are printing loads with it every day, then ends up costing a fortune in the maintenance
  9. Question bad encoder strip cause banding? head replacement cause heater issues?

Did you change the encoder sensor as well as the strip? I dont think thats the problem but is work doing as well. Have you tried printing other colour jobs to see if there is any other overspray as it seems to be only the magenta, which would point to the encoder all being ok. I would be...
  10. Market size for custom-made LED neon signs in the US?

I agree they are an easy fit, but they arent the sort of product most people would to to a sign shop to buy. They are more likely to get it done by the shopfitters or electricians
  11. Market size for custom-made LED neon signs in the US?

Agreed, they tend to work well as strip lighting and under lighting sorts of things, but thats not sign related really
  12. Roland SP-540i printhead suggestion

They are reputable in as far as the heads they buy come direct from Epson, and are new. However, they won't warranty the head at all if you fit it, nor if you use non OEM inks ( which is ironic as they sell their own brand inks for them ! ). They are also a total nightmare for returns. I...
  13. Review Logo for Hurrah Players

Why ? You made it 20 years ago and the company have been using it ever since. They are obviously happy with it? If a company have been using a logo for 20 years then you can be confident they are 100% happy with it and you fulfilled the design brief they gave you. Still not sure what all the...
  14. Roland SP-540i printhead suggestion

Really how many have you bought? I have fitted heads bought cheap from china for customers, and I would say you have about a 30% chance of getting a decent one.
  15. Market size for custom-made LED neon signs in the US?

The other problem is that in general for signage, led lights look crap, particularly on large lettering as it doesn't give a good solid colour the same way neon does. Even with diffusing you still get spots of colour. LEDs by their design just aren't a good solution
  16. Roland SP-540i printhead suggestion

None of the cheap heads from china are worth buying. At worst they will send you nothing, at best a 'refurbished' used head that doesnt work ( there is no way to refurbish the heads ). Pay a bit more and buy from a proper seller local to you and save yourself the headaches !
  17. Market size for custom-made LED neon signs in the US?

Market size means nothing really unless you are going to get a guaranteed percentage of it. You can say its £1 billion, but if you are only getting $10K of those orders, then what does that mean? Quoting market size is the sort of thing people who know nothing about business do in business plans...
  18. XC-540 Scan motor error.

If it is still doing it then it is time to replace the scan motor. They do fail or get weak with age, and best solution is to replace. Try and get an original motor, not one of the generic chinese ones that don't work as well. You can normally find OEM motors on Ebay
  19. Question bad encoder strip cause banding? head replacement cause heater issues?

Have you done the test prints in service mode to check the small nozzles as well? This should let you know if the head is working properly. Not sure about the heater, but you can turn the heaters off in the heater config on the printer and see if that stops them coming on at all
  20. Sp300i printhead replacement

    1. Nobody knows really. The transport fluid they use is water based, so it will evaporate at some point. Really you want to install them as quickly as possible, but then you dont know how long the seller has had it on their shelf. However ! If you buy one and don't fit it for 6 months or a year...
