Print and wrap
I would print on Arlon DPF 8000 w/ Arlon 3220 laminate for the outside concrete wall. I would then find a good interior vinyl from arlon and prob. use the same laminate.
You should be able to color match the dinoc stuff so that everything looks pretty much the same.
I don't do wooden signs typically, but I have a client that I'm doing like $200k worth of work and they want store front signs as follows:
3x8' Cedar (or similar) wooden sign, painted white w/ engraved blue letters. The white background is meant to be kind of a whitewashed look, basically...
1 Question
Hungry and tech savvy.
My #1 question I ask and judge people on is: "If you don't know something, how do you figure it out". If they don't say "google it" or similar somewhere in there answer, that pretty much takes them off my list. Doesn't matter what position I'm hiring for...
Money
Make paint stencils that say "Trump is not racist" or "Trump.... only slightly racist" and sell them on e-bay.
I used to sell a ton of styrene signage for POP stuff.
Normally we'll do acrylic w/ dusted vinyl on 2nd surface; Dimensional or cut graphics 1st surface; mounted with standoffs.
What do you guys do when the client wants a brushed metal backer? I was thinking about using max metal, but I'm worried the edges aren't going to look finished enough...
Enough is enough
Let me put this issue to rest.
1 - DO NOT print a vehicle graphic like that on clear. That's bush league at best
2 - Get a metallic laminate or something if u won't a wacky effect
3 - If they don't want cut graphics, either do a full or partial wrap. Otherwise it's cut...
For reference
That just happened to me with a 10'x20' box up 100'. My installers changed out all the lights and ballasts in it to find the power snipped at the base (for the last 8 years apparently).
Anyway: I use Oracal 3850 w/ 3M 8508 lam. Mounted to 3/16" Lexan (White)
I use cut...

Easy Fix
Best fix is.....
Step 1: Wheel it out to the curb or a field and beat it like it murdered your family.
Step 2: Buy HP Latex printer
Best decision I've ever made was to get an HP Latex to replace that solvent ticking time-bomb. My hatred for that machine runs deep.
Go team!
Outgassing
Lexan (polycarbonate) is supposed to outgas for 24 hours+ after you take the liner off of it. Just like you shouldn't laminate solvent-printed vinyl for 24 hours. Because we would NEVER laminate before it outgasses... Wait, we never wait for it to outgas. That's what I meant to...
We want to use fabric instead of normal curl-free film for our pop up banner stands. We have an HP 360 (Latex).
Anyone have any suggestions (ideally stocked by Grimco)?
Again, fabric not film or banner material.
Thanks team!
How do you tile backlit graphic without having a dark seam? I am trying to print or use cut vinyl on an 8' x 16' backlit sign. I just need to know what the procedure is to tile translucent graphics without having un-sightly lines, etc.
Thanks Team!
Hey guys, need some opinions on your experience with Shopvox or Corebridge. Just moved and started working at a new sign shop. We have about 1 year of data/orders in Cyrious but nothing has been customized or anything, so we are basically starting from scratch (Which I'm excited about).
Shop...
What about CRM/CMS stuff? Trying to find details for an order is a pain through multiple employee e-mails, notes, etc. I would love to have a record of phone call notes, attach all files, e-mail correspondence, record of previous actions, etc.
Do you use the calendar (My Activity)...
Thanks for the insight. That is pretty similar to our process. However, we are a shop of four (4) guys, so we are having our out-sourced installer(s) go and pull the permit. So, they charge us $300-$700 just to go to the city and wait, etc. Fairly often we have to re-work the packet and go...
User error.
Oily prints and slow print time is pretty easily fixed. You have to learn how to use the printer properly before you can bash it.
I had the l25, l26, and now l360. All we're progressively better and 10x better than solvent crap.
Either user error (my guess) or you got a lemon.
How much do you guys charge for pulling permits for clients? I'm talking mostly about channel letters and things like that.
- We create the permit packet
- Our installers (outsourced) go and get the permit. They will charge us up to $500-$700 to pull the permit sometimes.
Since we are in LA...
I'm new to the HP 360. I've used L25 & L26 and controlled everything through Onyx.
I downloaded a Oracal Profile for Oracal 3850. I imported it into the media manager, but how do I add it to the actual printer?
I can't use the profile because it doesn't match the printer, which is only set...
I have 3 signs that are roughly 5'w x 8'h. Planning on mounting to 1/2" ultraboard (foamcore w/ polystyrene on each side)
These need to stand up vertically. I was going to use "Spider feet" but they take a week to ship and I need them in like 2 days.
This is what I was going to use...
