  1. Windows 7

Assuming that you are referring to Versaworks, the RIP that Roland offers, the version 4.x product runs well on both the 32 and 64-bit versions of Windows 7.
  2. Problem with matching swatches

Roland Color System bypasses the ICC profile, and outputs the color directly into the CMYK values assigned by the Roland Color swatch. It does not convert the color through LAB color space as it would using ICC-based standards. This is why you need to print out the swatch chart onto each media...
  3. Where can I find info on making my own profiles?

As I recall, ColorRIP was a Roland OEM product that was based on Wasatch 4, and I don't believe that they included a profile creation module with ColorRIP. It was only sold for a period of maybe one or two years, back in 2004-2005 time frame. You might want to upgrade your RIP to something more...
  4. VersaWorks on XP Home edition?

Versaworks v4x will run fine on XP home.
  5. Transfer settings in VersaWorks to new computer

The Roland media products should all be available using the Online Update function. Any custom (User Defined) media listed in Media Explorer can be packaged as an RML file and then installed onto the new computer. Both of these actions can be performed from the Media Explorer icons.
  6. Spot Colors and Transparencies

You cannot save a TIF file with spot colors. Only certain file formats support spot colors, these include EPS and PDF. Try this. Save an EPS file from Illustrator, and bring it into Versaworks. Open the Job Settings dialog, and go to the Quality Tab. In the area labeled Color Management, change...
  7. Epson 11880 Pattern Problem

I assume by your use of the term 'Grand Format' that this is printed in a lower resolution/ faster print mode. It is hard to see from the image, but it could be chromatic banding from bi-directional printing, although you should only be printing with one color (K in this case) on a linearzation...
  8. Color Matching

    PM sent.
  9. Ink Contamination Issue

The dampers have a one-way valve in them to prevent this type of cross-contamination from happening. 4 year old dampers (in use since 2006) almost certainly are the prime cause for this problem. Replace them for all colors that share that cap top (Y/M). For that matter, assuming that they are...
  10. This is what you do NOT want to see in the morning

I agree with the previous post. Generally, when things get worse after cleanings, it is due to a bad seal on the maintenance assy/ capping station. If it has been more than one year since the maintenance station has been replaced, it's probably time to do so again.
  11. Q: Best way to accelerate a Diage Laminator

Rollers are oftentimes purposely 'crowned' in the middle of the roller. They should not wobble however...
  12. Anyone else having trouble with Versaworks 4.1.1

Oops, I goofed. LZW is supported in VW, but JPEG and ZIP-compressed TIF files are not supported.
  13. Anyone else having trouble with Versaworks 4.1.1

Make sure that you are sending an uncompressed TIF file to the Versaworks RIP. LZW compression is not supported and will cause the problems that you are describing. I will update VW at my facility and post my findings.
  14. can a profile create overspray when printing?

I don't believe that overspray can be attributed to a profile. In my experience, it is almost always a print-head alignment issue or related to heads that are wearing out, or possibly ink (3rd party) related issue. Low humidity can be another cause.
  15. Optimal Printing Conditions

Both temperature and relative humidity play a role in print output, particularly with solvent devices. Your target temperature should be 68-70 degrees f, with an acceptable range between 55 and 80 degrees. Relative humidity should be as close to 50 percent as possible, with an acceptable range...
  16. Banding in RED only?

Nozzle outs/ deflections in Magenta and/or Yellow? Your nozzle test print should tell the tale...
  17. Versacamm i series ink, which one is which on the menu screen?

Roland numbers the cartridge ports just above where the cart goes. Typically on 4-color Roland printers K=1, C=2, M=3, Y=4, but check on your machine. You should also be able to check which inks are low in your RIP software, assuming that you are using Versaworks.
  18. Gray is Green

Short Answer: C+Y=Green. Longer Ansewer: The RIP is laying down too much of the Cyan and Yellow, and not enough Magenta to create a balanced, neutral gray. It is a color management issue, and not a printer problem. As Mosh said, do a search on this, and you will see a lot of discussion on this.
  19. lines of ink build up on print????

Looks like dark banding among other issues. Check your nozzle test print, and media feed compensation (paper feed).
  20. Onyx install - no TCP/IP

Some of the larger grand-format devices (Scitex, Nur etc) do not support driving the printer directly from the RIP, but instead are driven by a local (to the printer) controller. In that case, you would forward the ripped file to the folder on the controller, and send the job from the printer's...
