  1. Printing on Butcher Paper

True 'butcher paper' is not coated for use with solvent inks. The ink will simply absorb and bleed, or, depending on the paper, not permeate and smear on the surface of the paper.
  2. SJ profiles in VP540

Short answer is NO. Media configurations are unique to the specific printer model. 2nd Question: Head speed is not correlated to lifespan of the head. The number of shots is, but not the carriage speed.
  3. Media Settings in VW

W-pass is twice the number of passes as the non-w mode at the same resolution. For example, 720x720 CMYK(v) is an 8-pass mode. The same resolution at w-pass mode is 16 passes. Not sure what the v2 is for (RIPC mode possibly?).
  4. Has Anyone Else Experienced This?

Roland solvent printers, including the VP, SP, XC, and RS series machines should not be powered off at any time (unless you're moving it or similar). The unit should enter a low-power 'sleep' state after a period of inactivity. Typically this is around 20 minutes or so. Leave the unit powered on...
  5. HP Z2100 24" Wide format Printer

HP Z-series are aqueous printers with entended inksets. They also include an embedded spectrophotometer to make profiling media easier. Like all water-based printers, the Z-series require coated media which can often cost much more than solvent media, particularly on PVC-based products.
  6. Need help finding a Brand/Logo

I performed a Google search of 'SLP Performance PDF' (w/o the quotes), and on the first page, located a PDF that contained a vector rendition of their logo. I brought the PDF into Adobe Illustrator, removed all but the vector logo, and saved an EPS of the logo. Total time = about 4 minutes.
  7. Why can't flexi handle transparencies in gradients?

The classic work-around is to rasterize the effect(s) and print the flattened TIF or JPG file.
  8. Sp540 no yellow or magenta

On the Roland SP series, Yellow and Magenta inks share one head (head 2). It seems that you have looked at the plumbing-related issues, and not found the source of the problem. The would leave the electrical side of the machine. I'd check the printhead fuses on the mainboard to see if one is...
  9. icc profiles for 8.6

You should be able to resister and log-in to SAi's web site and pull down media configurations for that version of the SAi RIP (FlexiPro/ PhotoPrint). Their site is: www.saintl.biz
  10. printing grey color

It will be greyed out unless two conditions are met: 1) Enable the Convert Spot Color checkbox in your Default Queue Properties (Edit Menu > Queue 'x' Settings. While you're here, you may as well enable the Convert Special Colors checkbox as well. This allows you to perform color replacements...
  11. Cutting Bumper Stickers Vp-540

It can be done in Versaworks 3.x. However the downside is that you will quickly groove the Cutter Protection Strip, and thus degrade the normal contour cutting functionality. Of course you can always replace the Cutting Protection Strip more frequently...
  12. Good color management!

In my opinion, Versaworks is a very full-featured RIP which is very competitive with products from other RIP developers. It allows for ICC-based color management, Spot Color Replacement, Variable Data printing, and other functions typically associated with a full-blown RIP. With respect to...
  13. Versaworks with Vista

We've been testing the 64-bit Windows 7 with Versaworks 3.x for 6 months. Now running Windows 7 RC1 with it with no issues to report re VW. As you mention, it is running as x86 application only (32-bit).
  14. Yellow cutting out!!! HELP!!!!

I would look at replacing the damper, as you did not mention replacing it previously. A partially clogged damper could cause symptoms you are seeing.
  15. Pantone matching for digital printing

Bryan: I'm curious what you would disagree with the above. I'm a big proponent of LAB, but everything that I stated is accurate to my understanding (note the quotes, meaning that LAB does not really suffer from being too large, in fact that is one of it's greatest assets).
  16. Pantone matching for digital printing

Both sides of this discussion are making valid points. If I was to paraphrase Jim's essential position, at least in part, he is objecting to Pantone's trademark/ license enforcement of their PMS color system (I don't want to put words into your mouth Jim). At the same time, it is true that there...
  17. Pantone matching for digital printing

Rooster: Bravo! Could not have said it better.
  18. Cleaning out pump lines on the MS

  19. color profile

Really not sure what you are asking here. A 'standard' workflow would involve saving a TIF or possibly PSD out of Photoshop, with a common standard working space embedded profile such as Adobe 1998 for RGB, or US Web Swop for CMYK. Specific file format will depend on what the RIP will...
