Surgery Cancelled $$$$$$

This is a first. Seems surgeon and hospital now want money up front before doing surgery - never was a requirement for previous 14 surgeries. It's $2,000 between the two. With 3 kids in college, I simply can't do it. Have to live with poking guts back into hernia awhile longer. Funny thing is, a minority guy here at work is having same surgery at a county funded hospital. HE has no insurance. They aren't making him pay up front. I guess I should ditch my insurance, go on welfare and let everybody else pay for MY surgery too if I want to have it?

Welcome to the new America. Everyone else's dream is your responsibility. I say ditch it and get the surgery.

I'm sure it wouldn't be that difficult to find that amount from the nice people here..as long as it isn't like a "male enhancement" surgery or something.

Thanks for the thought, but I'm nowhere near hard up enough to even consider it. Save that for the next true hardship case we come across. I'll have it in another couple of months or so. It's just getting real hard to live with this incisional hernia. It burns a lot and like I said, I'm tired of poking guts back into it. I've been here before bro. Thanks again.

So your saying that he wants you to pay for the deductable up front? Do you have a $2,000 deductable?

I think I would shop around some more for a different hospital, my wife has never had that problem (when we couldn't pay we paid what we could pay and made payments on the rest).

Every hospital here now requires up front pmt. They said it's because they never get their money from 90% of patients pd. in full. Even though I've always fallen in the other 10%, it's not good enough now. The surgeon who has operated on me 5 times previously even won't bend their upfront requirements. Set in stone. Like I said, the guy here who is using the essentially welfare hospital isn't required to put up a dime upfront. I'm pissed.

ta da, you have seen the problems we have with health care in the USA. it sucks that you pay for insurance and still can't afford to have an operation that you need to have done yet some clown gets it and pays nothing. my father-in-law had hernia surgery on April 23rd. he didn't have to worry about anything, didn't have to sell off some of his land to pay for it, didn't go without to pay for it and no he isn't on welfare, he's Canadian. they don't issues like we do were people who pay for insurance can't get the health care they need while free loaders get everyhting paid for.

Tell them you are an illegal alien and show up at an emergency room here in Phoenix. Give them fake ID (made using a stolen Social Security number) and a fake address.

Because some rich Australian who owns a newspapers and an hilariously comical news channel thinks anything which smacks of state heath care automatically leads to Communism?

Am I right? Can I claim my £5?

Arlo, sorry to hear that. The whole system is starting to suck. Our health insurance changed in september now we have a higher copay and also a $2500.00 family deductable which we didn't have before and the premium is also more. So were payin more and getting less and the illegal's all walk in and get taken care of without squat. Gotta love how things work. Even though Obama says it's for the better I have a bad feeling that it's not gonna be better. He says everyone has to have insurance and if you don't you will be fined, supposedly. How ya gonna pay the fine if you can't afford the insurance jackass?? Sorry for the rant but, the whole thing really pisses me off. Arlo, I hope your not feeling too bad today and I sincerely hope it all works out for you. I know the discomfort sucks.

and Socialism and the end of our entire country as we know it, the loss of freedom, the end of the world, the next thing they will come for our guns, chaos, and death panels. (or we could just pay taxes like we do now and have the health care available when we need it)

I hope you can put up with the discomfort and pain until you can afford to have this procedure done, but if this was in the NHB section.... I'm sure you'd be getting some really different comments.........

So please..... for the rest of the posters, don't turn Arlo's thread into a bad situation for the administrators here.... keep it clean.

too late.....................

sorry but it just makes me so mad when I hear of a good person like Arlo who works hard, pays his taxes and has insurance can't get an operation that he needs while some dead beat gets one and doens't have to worry about paying for it. there's something horribly wrong with this. how many coin jars do you see sitting on counters in stores for people trying to get enough money to get care for a child or someone who needs alife saving surgery? it's wrong and it rots.

Marlene..... I totally agree, but let's move this conversation.... or start a new one in the NHB section and stop messing this thread up.
