  1. VS540i Vertical Banding

if the bands aren't lining up with where pinch rollers are (they dent some media, and not on others) then it's usually solved by cleaning the encoder scale. A picture would help, but if it's throwing lines of random colours vertically that's for sure just a dirty encoder.
  2. Versacamm sp540v - pinchroll errors/changing the data cable?! PLEASE HELP!

Roland calls it a "Cut Carriage Cable". they are the same for every machine other than length and the pro4, which got its own revision.
  3. DX4 Print Head Problem

Voltage and pulse width are supposedly in the head rank, but if the number wasn't printed on the head or the box it came in it's not going to help much.
  4. DX4 Print Head Problem

looks like the right head, at least looks the same as the ones that come out of the Roland boxes. Does your old head still work? if you put that back in does the fuse insta-blow again?
  5. DX4 Print Head Problem

usually blown fuses are from a short or cable not in all the way. A broken head could do that as well, but those aren't common out of the box.
  6. Roland SP300v Cutting is Consistently Inconsistent

sounds like a feed issue. The pinch rollers get old and hard, turn kinda brown and don't bite like they used to. replacing them usually helps. The grit rollers too, get built up with crud, so if they aren't raspy like a file, you can use a metal bristle brush to scuff them sharp again. The...
  7. Print - Lam - Cut problem

The printer reads the first crop mark and rectangle to get the angle of the sheet, and if loaded crooked looks for where the second crop mark should be. Likely, you've loaded the sheet straight, but the printer is reading the crop mark as crooked. This is usually because the crop sensor is dirty...
  8. xR640 more issues

One more thing for XR-640 owners to check, whom get this random pattern banding, is if there is backlash on the feed motor. Easy way to tell, with no media loaded, in service menu->motor menu->servo lock It shows s (for scan) and some numbers, hit down so it shows f (for feed) and likely two...
  9. Roland Media Holder nuts stripping....I've got a solution!

it's a more glamorous solution than the pistol grip clamps i see practically everywhere.
  10. 0010 Scan motor error

0010 Deviation error is either the motor itself is broken, or something is slipping. very loose drive belt/cable, bad connection from the drive belt to the carriage, gears slipping between motor and drive pulley. If the motor is 3+ years old and well used, it's likely the issue.
  11. Roland BN-20 and versa works

hard to say, there isn't a lot of options in the utulity. Is media loaded in the bn-20? i cant remember if there is a specific load media button or if it jus does it as the pinch rollers are engaged.
  12. SP-300V not recognizing new cartridges

if it's showing the cartridges as not inserted instead of empty, there is a button at the end of the cartridge bay that detects when a cart is fully inserted. I think it's white, but a long stemmed screwdriver or similar tool can press it, and give the same result as a cart put in. If pressing...
  13. Roland BN-20 and versa works

bn-20 might have to be "on" for it to work, failing that try a different USB port. Not sure if the downloaded BN-20 utility comes with the driver, so you might need that as well.
  14. Carbon content in black ink

The black head does tend to deflect much sooner than the others, but doing so after only a few months isn't right. It's a mixed bag of results going from OEM ink to others, some people get much more trouble, others don't notice a difference. If it's not a busy printer, and the ink sits still...
  15. Roland Vs. Summa

12 year Roland service tech here, get the Summa.
  16. Roland BN-20 and versa works

yes update versaworks, and the bn-20 needs the bn-20 utility.
  17. Strange lines appearing in middle of prints! Xc-540

those lines are propagating into the print, it doesn't look like static, more like signal noise. still go ahead and try to reduce static, since it needs to go anyway. There were firmware updates long ago to address some of these noise issues, so update if you haven't already. Signal noise is...
  18. Replacing SP-540v Main Board

Head rank? it shouldn't make or break a head being able to fire, but it's something. From experience, if it isn't board, it's cables. Usually just not seated, but sometimes bad. If you've replaced the print carriage board and the long trailing cables, and now the main board, that's pretty...
  19. Replacing SP-540v Main Board

Better than the SUM ERROR :) . should be an option for "initialize parameters" in the service manual, i think it's menu up and power. that starts the parameters off at XXX for a value, then you can put yours on through peck. The printer will figure out it's own width the first time it does an...
  20. SC 500 - No Media Suction

if theres NO suction, the vacuum fans aren't running. dead fans, damaged cable, broken board, all the usuals for something not running. If the fans are running, but suctions is really low, they do build up paper shreds and dust inside the impellers, and a good cleaning will get them back up to...
