  1. Roland questions.

Im looking to get another machine and have heard great things about Rolands. My original plan was to pick up a VS-640 and run it with the white and metallic. We are a Color Logic certified printer for both offset and digital and want to get certified for large format as well. The...
  2. How Many employees

Company wise there is about 70 of us. In our wide format department, there is 1. Just lonely ole me.
  3. Sandwich Board / A-Frame

If it were me, I would just build a basic frame from 3/4" or 1" angle iron. That way a couple good hinges could be welded on. Frame would be pretty sturdy and would be cheaper later down the road to change the sign insert if the customer wanted.
  4. Walmart

I guess you could say that. Although most of the people that frequent the Walmart by me are a fairly low class of people.
  5. Walmart

Im with this guy. I am more than happy to spend more money at Target to not have to deal with the people at Wal-Mart. I occasionally go with my dad to Wal-mart but they don't get my business. I have yet to go to with him and not have 2-3 people in line in front of us paying with food stamps...
  6. Members of Signs101

Ill join, would be good to show our sales people, may generate more business for the both of us.
  7. Apple vs. PC poll

I persoanlly dont deal much with that aspect but they say its something with the way the files are packaged. There are a couple extra little files at that along with PC created files when they are opened on a Mac. I use CS4 at home to create things and bring them in and open them to edit or...
  8. Acrobat software too good to be true

I personally never understood buying software second hand. I wouldn't run the risk. There are so many ways to manipulate the system as far as registration codes go. Adobe is pretty strict with software licensing. We had a hard drive go bad and had fun with Adobe trying to get the license...
  9. Apple vs. PC poll

I run PC at home(2 laptops, 3 desktops), I use a PC at work due to Onyx rip and our prepress is full of macs and a couple PCs, our server is PC based. All design work we do is Adobe or Quark, all on Macs, prepress hates when customers send in PC adobe files as they are never right. I love my...
  10. Acrobat software too good to be true

Being a student, I have access to buy all of Microsoft's and Adobes software at student prices. When I bought cs3 and cs4, they were the full versions, same as what we buy here at work directly from Adobe, just at half the cost. I can buy a Windows 7 ultimate, new install for under $100. Its...
  11. Looking to rip the design apart

Its both a web address and the company name. Visit the website and you will see its a company logo. I know I personally wouldnt be to happy if someone I hired to do a job for me told he he "didnt like" my logo and that he should redesign or change it.
  12. NFPA signs

Ive learned from prior experiences from dealing with companies like this before my printing career that usually they read the exact same thing you can on their website. If its wrong on their site, the info they know is wrong.
  13. Critique/Help

What about making the "X" from 2 wrenches?
  14. Cutting Mats

We have several light tables with glass tops for cutting in out EPP department. With as many extra ciricular activities that i use my finishing table for, I would probably have the glass broken in no time. I have some scrap sintra that Ill try and see how it feels. May also look into puck...
  15. Cutting Mats

I've been told before that 3mm sintra works fairly well as an inexpensive cutting mat. The self healing part doesn't matter as the ones I have are supposedly self healing but aren't with an olfa.
  16. Nice Tools for Cutting Coroplast

I use a Keencut Excalibur for board material as I am rarely lucky enough to be cutting anything from a sheet smaller than 4'x8'. Ive been looking at those straight edges that have knife attachments when I need to cut anything longer than 5'. I can usually get by on using my straight edge and...
  17. Cutting Mats

I use the olfa for everyday cutting of the light weight materials and if I have a small piece of fome core to cut. Otherwise all the rigid media are cut on my excalibur 3000.
  18. Cutting Mats

What types of knives does everyone use? It seems most suppliers sell x-acto or equivalent knives for the sign industry. We use them for cutting proofs in our EPP department, never tried one to see how sturdy they would be for what I cut.
  19. Cutting Mats

Using a fresh, sharp knife, even just lightly dragging it across the table will leave a scar that tracks. Ill have to check them out.
  20. retractable banner stand question

Most of the banner stands I do are telescopic. I always make sure there is at least an additional 8" at the bottom of the finished size. Hate to have the customer pull it out to far and have white exposed. We primarily use Orbus stands. Pretty decent stands for the price.
