  1. Just In New Shop and Tips for Just Starting

    I thought that was mandatory?
  2. Discussion I've owned an HP R1000 since April 2019, ask me anything

So have you got a rough estimate on square foot printed compared to the ink you’ve used?
  3. Just In New Shop and Tips for Just Starting

Printer -> laminator -> finishing equipment/big labels. Always handy keeping the rolls of paper close to the machines you’re putting them in too. We have a few extra work tables near the printers that have shelves underneath for all our main stuff. Then a few “hedgehog” roll holders that can...
  4. Question CJV30-130

Doesn’t the Titan 2 support register mark contour cutting? If you get a decent enough rip (not rasterlink, that only supports mimaki) that supports the Titan 2 you can get any printer and still use that cutter?
  5. Promoting floor graphics?

Sounds more like the cheapest solution usually ends up in a lawsuit
  6. Printer service call labor costs vs. doing the work yourself

We done most of our maintenance work on our own with the mimaki. Got so say though, with the service contract on the Colorado it’s nice phoning someone the minute there’s any problems lol. If you can do the work, do it. Especially if there’s not much else going on. I found initially I recorded...
  7. Promoting floor graphics?

Can’t imagine anyone sells floor graphics that aren’t anti slip! I’ve found the actual slip rating gives customers peace of mind. Not sure if that’s a UK thing or not.
  8. Question CJV30-130

Do you have a cutter currently? The mimaki cutter is alright for a print and cut but I run our summa literally 10x faster than I had to run the mimaki to get accurate cuts. The tracking/accuracy on printer/cutters isn’t great compared to standalone cutters. But it’s still good enough for 90%...
  9. Question CJV30-130

Depends how much the rip costs I’d guess. The machines are easily 10 years old but are absolute tanks (we still have ours, only on the second print head and still works great, just REAAAALY slow compared to our Colorado lol - you’re talking 17m/sq an hour or so.) We run a decent enough quality...
  10. Question hp 3100z

Firstly, welcome to the forum! Secondly, I’m not familiar with that particular printer but a quick google leads me to believe it’s a “photo” printer. So I’d assume it’s inks are only meant for indoor use, such as posters, photo prints, canvases, maybe roller banners. It’s therefor quite...
  11. What file type do you print from?

We have digital presses too so we request PDF artwork. That or we end up with dodgy word files that don’t open properly or stuff gets moved about. I don’t even want to start on bleeds..
  12. We don’t laminate our signs. Thoughts?

right so you offer people the big sign companies prices? but at the same time charge triple? If you want to be a cheap hack, go for it by all means. But at least be consistent about it..
  13. What file type do you print from?

Just wondering what the majority of people use for their printing? We use PDF’s. I’ve always found they're very consistent and more widely accepted. Plus handy for sending to customers if I really need to as they pretty much cover all the bases, they give file dimensions and support vector and...
  14. rasterlink 6 Double cutting

Have you tried printing that PDF and seen if it does a double cut or not? That’ll tell you right away if it’s an output issue (file looked ok to me, though I usually do a 0.1mm stroke as a minimum)
  15. Help with perf cutting on mimaki cjv 150-75

Off topic here Paul but what rasterlink are you using? We got our 5 upgraded to 6 for free and it completely eliminated the need for the finecut plugin and saved LOADS of time. We now use onyx BUT it means you can just load the job 1 up, tell rasterlink how many copies and it steps it up and...
  16. rasterlink 6 Double cutting

Care to share a file that you know is double cutting? best bet is to select the line then zoom in as far as you can, if the path is on either side of the line, you’ll get a double cut. Needs to be down the centre. And yes, make sure at no point you convert strokes to outlines
  17. Need Help applying without bubbles

7 years sounds like an awful lot of signs with bubbles in them. And most of them are probably faded by now too! Why not just get a laminator? If you’re going to do it, do it right?
  18. Question Flatbed

Don’t know anything about vanguards but took me about 20 seconds to see the VR5D-E (entry level) can do clear, spot and white edit: looks like you can add heads if you need to as well.
  19. Promoting floor graphics?

Helps a lot if you can tell them the slip rating I’ve found. Our sales went up when we mentioned the R12 slip rating of that helps. Peace of mind I guess
  20. Dual monitor question

Isn’t it just as simple as, say, illustrator? say I had two files open, I can switch between them from the file names up top (what you’ll be doing now). But if you drag and drop that file name instead of clicking it, it’ll open it In a new window. Then just drag that window to the other screen...
