  1. couple questions on the XC-540

You know.. i've never used anything other than roll, so I'm not sure. The way you disengage a roller that you don't want to use is to position it off of the grit rollers on the bottom. Just slide it to a spot where there's no roller and it won't come down on the media.
  2. Got the ram, what about the rest of the machine?

XP doesn't do anything with more than 3gb or ram, so you're wasting money installing the 8gb, unless you're planning on upgrading to vista, which I wouldn't do quite yet. I cannot stress enough that hd speed is important. When you're running at 3Ghz processor speed with enough ram, the drives...
  3. profiles and window perf

Ronda, To import the new profiles, you just go to the media explorer, and click on the icon to add from a file. You may need to unzip the profile you downloaded, but it should be in .rml format. Just select that file, and you're set. We typically use the same profile used for printing the...
  4. Vehicle Template Questions

Fred, I just thought of something simple that makes a huge difference while designing. The bad wrap does not level out the cars like DAL does. It keeps the rake that most trucks have, which makes creating the design a little harder. It would be a good idea to have all of the templates level...
  5. Ever thrown anyone out of your shop?

We designed some truck lettering for a guy who started a new company along with 7 of his friends. They had 8 trucks total, and we lettered the first one, with the promise of 7 more to come. We discounted the job a little, but not much (the guy had been in before with a different truck). One...
  6. Head Height XC-540 On Reflective?

Actually, we print reflective regularly, and have no issues. The only time we've had head strikes is when the material is crooked from the get-go. If you are having the problem only at the beginning of the roll(or at the leading edge of the roll, should I say) let a couple of feet out to put...
  7. SIGNWarehouse is our newest Merchant Member

Welcome! It's nice to see one of the larger players coming on board as a merchant member. There was discussion a few weeks ago about some merchants not being able to stand the heat sometimes generated on boards like this. I hope that won't be the case! :signs101:
  8. laminator questions for those who can help

The big squeegee is nice, and it's a tool that is very handy for short runs when you don't want to switch out lam. Even Dale will tell you it's not a replacement for a laminator, but like I said, it's handy as hell. The way I like to load our machine is to leave the rollers open, and pull...
  9. Head Height XC-540 On Reflective?

We've never changed our head height. It's on low by default. The only time we've had head strikes is while printing on banner material, with it loaded incorrectly. As long as it's in there straight, you shouldn't have any problems.
  10. Vehicle Template Questions

Fred, We use DAL and the bad wrap.. Mostly with corel 13, but wraps are designed in photoshop CS2. The organization of the book with DAL is odd to me. As Christian said, tIt's easy to find a vehicle if you and DAL are referring to it by the same name. However, sometimes vehicles are...
  11. I wanna buy some grass!

Found one on istock.. had to search for "fake" instead of "synthetic". Doh!
  12. I wanna buy some grass!

I thought about that, but I'd like to get the design wrapped up today, and they're not open.. And they're like 35 miles away.
  13. I wanna buy some grass!

Synthetic grass, that is. I need a high res close up of some of that fake lawn that's all the rage now. Personally, I'd never own a fake lawn..nothing better than mowin the lawn and drinkin a beer on Saturday afternoon. I've looked on istock, getty, sxc, and I can't find what I'm looking for...
  14. Is there a way in Windows XP Pro ...

Fred, A few apps have the "always on top" option under the drop down menu if you click on the upper left icon on the title bar. Most apps don't have that option, though, and I'm not sure if there's another utility or addon that can force the others to stay on top.
  15. Black Specks On Film XC-540

Well, drop out is normal when the heads are dirty. It should go away with a simple auto cleaning. When was the last time you manually cleaned the machine?
  16. Black Specks On Film XC-540

It's called drop-out, and i've only seen it when printing constantly all day (once). We don't have our set to clean periodically, as I think it would slow things way down and waste ink. Also, I don't think it's really necessary since I've only seen drop-out once.
  17. Black Specks On Film XC-540

Is this happening during long print runs? If so, the XC has an option to perform periodic cleanings while printing. If not, it probably needs a cleaning. I'd just run a standard head cleaning on at least the black head, but probably just do them all as preventative maintenance.
  18. CorelDraw.com

Thanks! We took the X3 class at ISA a few weeks ago.. If I learned nothing else than the fillet/scallop/chamfer tool, it was worth it. I had been wishing Corel would come up with a tool that would round corners since I started using it. Little did I know it was already there! Doh!
  19. Got the ram, what about the rest of the machine?

Thanks! I noticed you had it, and that's what sparked the conversation between my computer guy and I about the importance of the drives. It was expensive, but I think we'll probably end up putting a different drive array in the old machine too.
  20. Hybernate/Standy doesn't work..

Yeah, I know it's not totally necessary, but it's nice to be able to close the lid when I need to take a break and not kill the battery. Another note.. I just noticed that the icon for the dos prompt on the start menu has changed.. hmm.. I wonder if this is the same thing rep posted about a...
