  1. Applying long narrow prints

I've never tried using a hinge method on the laminator... though I can see some sense in that. However, on say for example my 25ft print - would I not then have 12 feet of exposed (sticky!) vinyl laying out on the table? That's kind of a scary thought! I don't see how you could cut the...
  2. Hello From Barrie, Canada

welcome to signs101! from Kingston ON. :rock-n-roll:
  3. Applying long narrow prints

So, I had to apply a strip of printed vinyl to rolled Lexan today, which was 25ft. long x 2ft high. I laid the print out, evenly aligned over the lexan, then started/peeled about 4 inches of it - then ran it through the laminator. I was sweating bullets that it wouldn't "run" too much! It...
  4. Head gone crazy?

well, time to close off this tale... shortly after posting the price of the head, I got a PM from Kent, at Mac Media. He had a better price on the original Mutoh part, but more importantly explained to me that I could use an Epson head - just had to change the manifold on the back of it...
  5. Head gone crazy?

Thanks Randya, I'm getting a quote of $2375 for a new head (Canada) Sound about right? Sounds like I'd be wise get a new ribbon cable while I'm at it too.
  6. Head gone crazy?

I've got no problem with replacing the head.... unless it doesn't fix the problem. So I'm trying to be "as sure" as possible first. Here's one of the symptoms. Was test printing a red rectangle, when at the end of it, the magenta starts this "continuous firing" nonsense. shut down, tried some...
  7. Head gone crazy?

dug back into the guts of the beast last night... - I definitely messed up the head position when I moved it. Cleanings were not drawing out any ink. - took the head completely out, then carefully replaced it into the correct position. - cleaning is working / drawing ink again - nozzle check...
  8. Head gone crazy?

nope... I was wrong again! (I'm so good at being wrong, lol ) the inner magenta used to work intermittently / outter one always perfect. Now, after swapping dampers (and screwing things up) the inner is still intermittent (just "thought" it was working ok) and the outter no longer works at all...
  9. Head gone crazy?

Update UPDATE let it sit awhile... did another cleaning, and another head check. the "missing magenta" has swapped sides! which really tells me that it IS in fact the damper, since the reversed dampers have reversed which head is not firing.
  10. Head gone crazy?

ordered dampers... meantime, things kept getting worse. I could do a cleaning, get a magenta head-test pattern, print 10 inches or so, and the inside magenta head would quit. It wasn't a gradual bleed off either. One line perfect, next line nothing. Do a head check - the inner magenta was 100%...
  11. Anybody tried cutting down a roll of media?

In case you didn't know... All Graphic Supplies (In Toronto as well I believe..) will slit rolls for you - no extra charge. I've even ordered cut rolls as late as 3pm and they've shipped the same day. I also have a 48 inch printer, so just about every roll of media I order needs to be slit.
  12. Head gone crazy?

so.. I've found one of my suppliers can get me Mutoh parts... so far, so good! I figure I'm on the right road here, when he asks "standard size, or over-sized dampers?" gah!! any easy way to tell? All I know for sure, its the original factory ones in place - however I assume they are not...
  13. Head gone crazy?

thanks for tips and a direction to start in! Sounds like first thing is some serious cleaning (flushing?) and ordering some dampers then. I'll take the end apart, and see how things are flowing when I do a head flush. I feel like I owe the poor old girl some TLC anyway! I've seen so...
  14. Head gone crazy?

I have a ValueJet 1204 - 4 years old now, and the only "maintenance" I've ever done is clean it (I'll admit I'm somewhat intimidated by more advanced procedures!) Its quite a low-volume shop - I'd say a set of cartridges every 2 months... Recently, the magenta has become erratic. One of...
  15. Big Squeegee Information

not sure they still do... but All Graphic Supplies in Toronto used to carry them. I got mine directly from Dale as well though (before All Graphic started to market them) Not a day goes by that don't use mine either!
  16. Photoshop cs2 cut line ?

nope, its bitmap or raster graphics, not vector, so you can't make cut lines.
  17. my first wrap chevy suburban with arlon

looks like you did the prints / wrap, then added the text lines afterwards, separately? If that's the case, why wouldn't you have printed the text along with the graphics? I'm no expert on wraps, by any means!... so I'm wondering if that is the normal way of things? ( I didn't think so)
  18. Canadians - Where to order Oracal??

not sure on that particular material... but I do get all my oracal products from All Graphic Supplies (link posted in previous post) Good luck!
  19. Printing banners

on mine (1204 valuejet) its an orange lever - pretty much same spot. I've had that trouble too.. and have only the dryer heat on when doing banners - it tends to pucker between the rollers otherwise.
  20. Value Jet Maintenance

Re: Mutoh Valuejet 1204 my printer is just about to turn 3 years old... so far, it has been both a fantastic and forgiving machine, since I had never so much as laid eyes on a wide format solvent printer before getting this one. After learning to use it on my own, I think its time for me to...
