I have a 1204, and the clean cycle is set to 6 hours. However, in 5 years I've never once heard it do a cleaning when it's just sitting there, not in use. If 6 hours go by, and I send a print job, it will auto-clean before it starts printing, but that's the only time. Never really had a problem...

we use rite-media "fabric" (good for eco-sol inks) It really does look and feel like "fabric" even though its vinyl coated. Not sure where you get it in the U.S. We get it from All Graphic Supplies in Canada...

I'm curious if anyone has looked at / considered / or is using - any of the new 3 Dimensional printers for creating dimensional signage? (instead of CNC routing them) I know most aren't very big, however it seems like you could bond together "tiles" to do some amazing layouts?

taking it from the other end of the spectrum..... I've had a Mutoh 1204 for several years now, which can print a max. of 48 inches (47.25 bi-directional ) It's a pain getting "standard" 54 inch material cut down to 48 inch rolls, and edge-to-edge printing for 4 x 8 sheets is nearly impossible...

for me.... loose the texture background, the "sparklies" (maybe one light-star if you really need something like that) and the effects on the text. The bevel on the graphic looks ok to me.

I'm pretty much at the same place myself, and have been for a while... I think there's a lot more to it than just being able to reduce your own hours worked. Generally, if you're that busy on a steady basis you're likely doing all kinds of things to "hurt" your business and cost you money. Jobs...

lol I never claimed I was bright ;) but mainly my point was that different modes have it built-in to be one or the other, and the mode's name gives no indication of that. For some odd reason I had always just assumed it only ran uni-directional printing on the highest resolutions (the 1440 ones)

I doubt this will help much... but I have a 1204 I did the dampers (and head) about 6 or 7 months ago. I don't remember any special "tricks" to getting it apart, but I do remember a cover over the dampers, that was such a PAIN to get off... I never put it back. It was like 30 minutes of twisting...
