Do you know if you have the "Publish" licence on your device? If not, you won't be able to profile CMYK devices in i1Profiler, only RGB (usually aqueous) printers. We mistakenly bought the incorrect one, but were able to upgrade the licence and unlock all of the features.
Honestly, I think this method isn't going to work properly as those additional channels usually mean "spot" colours like white/metallic/varnish. I have a feeling that if you end up profiling with one of the CMYK+x models, you'd need to reference the additional channels with a spot colour name in...
Our machine is over 3 years old and we can print 6 pass (4 pass as well) without any banding like this.
But yes, more passes will hide the issue but maybe not the best solution for everyone.
I would run a media calibration on this again as it can drift over time.
I prefer i1Profiler to Onyx when profiling our 80600. Gamut plots show the colour range to be slightly larger when using i1... YMMV.
Don't worry about the additional ink settings. You can profile using the standard CMYK option and should get excellent results.
When you set up a new media type...
Zunds start around AUD$180k/GBP£100k over here... keep on saving. Even the Summa F starts around half of that here.. but everything in Australia feels like it costs a bit more than elsewhere.
I have heard that the 80600L only gives a 15% ink price saving over a normal 80600 so you'd need to be printing miles of stuff per week to justify it.
For one roll per week, I'd go the regular 80600. It's still very good on ink usage.
Our biggest issue is that there is no consistency with label sizing across our clients (or even the same client).
An order of 10,000 labels usually consists of around 20 different designs in various quantities so digital is still the way to go for our particular client base.
Epson is around $10k, Afinia $15k. The finisher is the killer though. Looking at more $ than either printer for something that will laminate and contour cut ... but the ability to print 3000 labels an hour is mighty attractive.
Haven't used either of those machines but they must be quite loud to leave a ringing in the ears after a day of work. Our printer is rather quiet... the vacuum fan for the media is probably the loudest part of the machine, but is barely louder than normal conversation.
I'm a firm believer in...
Several items to clear up:
Apologies for the curt reply earlier in the thread. I mod another signage forum where industry experience is an absolute requirement for joining so my reply was not correct nor warranted for this forum.
Post #6 was removed for abuse and racial stereotyping, neither...
Perhaps look into something like the Epson C7500 or Afinia L801 if you're only doing labels. You'd need a finisher for laminating/cutting as well, but this would be much faster than a solvet/latex/UV machine.
We're currently looking at moving our label production to a dedicated system as we're...
