  1. Ritrama premium - good? bad?

We've used Metamark as our primary premium calendered vinyl but now I have a rep trying to push Ritrama premium, it's also a 7-year calendered film with a good price point. It's a tad thinner, 60 mic. vs. 70 mic. for the one we use now, that makes me worried it won't be as easy to apply (large...
  2. VP-540 print quality printhead replacement advice HELP!!!

It's not a function in the machine, you manually fill the capping station with cleaning fluid and let the heads soak for a while, the process is described on this site in some threads... The head soak could improve the pattern a bit but it looks like you've had a head strike at some point?
  3. Health Care Exchange

Since we only have small countries in Europe compared to the USA it's probably not comparable but we pay sickening taxes but then again we have almost free healthcare regardless if you have a high income or living on the street. For example (to simplify) if you get sick you pay about 30 bucks...
  4. VP-540 print quality printhead replacement advice HELP!!!

The black. Both seem to have deflected nozzles but the cyan nozzles seem to be still aligning quite well horizontally (on the pic) while the black seem to have more of a "wave" in the upmost row. Just a stab at it, both seem to need some work (or replacement) at least, I assume you have tried...
  5. Future of the industry?

If LED screens is the future as everyone says you'll soon be able to order a roll and throw it in the vinyl cutter, cut to size and slap it on the side of a van. The industry is changing but don't you think 3M, Oracal, Avery etc. will find ANY products at all that we signmakers could use to earn...
  6. Hello from Finland

Terve Riku! Welcome from the west coast of Finland!
  7. Really bad skewing when print, laminate then cut. HELP!

Have you checked beneath the media clamps for goo that usually builds up from laminate glue etc.? I switched to long media clamps on one of our Versacamms for the first time recently and the mess beneath them was downright ugly. It didn't affect media skewing yet but I can imagine if you have...
  8. Roland Versaworks not connetcing to VS-640

Does the computer communicate trough VW with the printer, e.g. does it show the printer status, ink remaining etc. and the only problem is printing? If it doesn't communicate at all (show up as disconnected) you have something with the network/IP settings of the computer. Does the computer...
  9. Full Print or Cut Vinyl Letters

Cut vinyl for this application, gives you good black and you don't have to laminate (use the proper cut vinyl though depending on how long the sign should last). The cost will end up about the same I think if you factor in all material and labour with both methods.
  10. aluminum wallets?

    Roland Metaza?
  11. working with 2ml regular vinyl vs wrap media...uggg

Looks like fun on the pic, reminds me of a taxi van I had to re-do three times (stupid flower went over a lot of recesses etc.), couldn't find out why it never worked. Ended up doing it like you did though, wet and without premask.
  12. 4over Custom Quote - Per piece price higher on 10,000 pieces than on 5,000 pieces

Sounds very strange, sometimes in very rare cases you need to renew the printing plates and/or dies (if die cut to shape) in an offset printing process after a certain number or imprints but that's very rare. In that case it could be the die/plates only last 8-9k and then needs renewal, thus an...
  13. Looking For Suggestions For Materials for Motorcross Graphics

Regarding the cutting concern, we had trouble cutting the thick material before and needed to cut in two passes with high pressure (Roland Versacamms), but since we switched to a 60 degree blade instead of 45 it cuts like butter. Good blades do a lot for these difficult materials, now we run at...
  14. Wet lamination

Oh, well you learn something from this forum every day, never thought it was even possible to apply wet. But how do you avoid soaking up the backing paper on the vinyl? Now you got me curious about this, need to try it on Monday instead of the laminator! :toasting:
  15. Looking For Suggestions For Materials for Motorcross Graphics

We use Avery 7545 transparent PVC as an overlaminate for the MC decals, it's thick as whatnot with it's 325 mic., but holds up extremely well. It is used as a stone chip protection film on vehicles but we use it as a overlaminate on the decals (as per our suppliers advice), printed on a...
  16. Wet lamination

No idea but I guess your material warranties of any kind will go out the window the same time you take out that spray bottle... I guess you would have a hard time: Getting the laminate to stick to the vinyl Getting a good finish Keeping the vinyl flat on the table while squeegeing the crap out...
  17. Opinions on EstiMate?

We've been using it for a while now and it's a great first estimating software. Very well worth the money. It has some minor bugs for example sometimes when you open an estimate and want to review/change details on an item on the estimate it can "revert back to defaults", a bit annoying but...
  18. After Market Caterpillar Decals

Thanks for your responses! This is exactly how I see it. So with that logic, if it's a painted OR decal logo and I renew it identically e.g. bringing it back to original on that object I don't see a problem, but if I put it up here and there where the manufacturer hasn't had it there could be...
  19. After Market Caterpillar Decals

On the same subject, let's say you restore a car or truck and repaint it and the badge (originally painted or is made of metal as on old cars) is also repainted. Is that a copyright issue? If the badge is instead a decal and is "restored" e.g. renewed, is that a copyright issue? Not talking...
  20. Cheapest place to buy a VS-540 print head?

I have good experience of digiprint-supplies and they are definately a legit company. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them, fast delivery and good prices.
