  1. Suggestions Time to update, Latex or Solvent?

We went from solvent to UV gel (oce Colorado) gotta say it’s got a few good points from either of the main ink types. As far as the prints go, we have awesome speeds, can laminate right away. Ink costs are very low, maintenance once a week - once a month, scratch proof inks etc etc. I get that...
  2. CJV30 Help Needed

Did you get a maintenance manual? This machine is to be cleaned daily with frequent work and at the latest, weekly. Basically, get a swab and the cleaning fluid and clean everywhere except from the actual head (the bit ink comes out). Looks like there’s a LOT of built up ink so that will...
  3. Suggestions Time to update, Latex or Solvent?

Get a 3D printer and make yourself one of each.
  4. Need Help Advice

Depends if it’s been plugged in and maintained or not. Like most printers, if the ink has been sitting in the head unused for 6 months without any cleaning etc. It’s probably a brick now
  5. Suggestions WRAPPING A CONVEX SHAPE

Might be a little late, but our seller just recommends the 3551 for signage/flat stuff. Should be alright for this application but I’d keep an eye out. (Pics would help)
  6. Onyx/Oce Colorado communication issues

Honestly with the 1640 it still feels a little beta-ish and clunky. Once the machine is running, you can wander off and it’s a dream. It’s when it’s not going that the problems start. There’s just a few niggly things that an almost two year old machine should not be experiencing. My biggest...
  7. Discussion I know my answer already, what's yours...........................

Who makes branding guidelines and doesn’t let you make the entire thing either black or white? Especially text!
  8. Onyx and summa questions

Yeah we’ve contacted the guys that sent the summa (as it seems a problem with that) and they said contact onyx so we’re looking into that. Just in case anyone can help; Summa cutter control says; Barcode received: 616... Sending file: 616... Sending file failed. But.. if we put in the...
  9. Suggestions solvent ink durability on canvas

It really depends how picky your customers are/how much you want to spend here. We had an old canon IPF9100, canvases and detail were great on it, but it was a 12 colour machine and cost an arm and a leg to simply fill with ink. As far as longevity goes, most solvent machines can get 2-3...
  10. Onyx and summa questions

We’re running 18.5. As far as the barcodes go, that’s what we do, I put it in the summa, get it to find the barcode then it automatically cuts. Now for the catch, one end of the sheet gets a 6 code, and one the 9 (so the summa knows which end is which). For us, the summa only cuts it when it’s...
  11. Onyx and summa questions

So I’m still pretty new to summa/onyx/barcode server but recently I’ve had a few thoughts/questions I couldn’t figure out by just scanning around the menus. We have a summa S class. Firstly, when loading rolls of vinyl with the barcodes etc. The summa only ever seems to cut when I put a “9”...
  12. Confused about dye sub and dye sub transfers

We use a solvent so I can’t help you re. Latex, with regards to the transfers, the manufacturer should have guidelines for press times, temperature etc. There’s also hot and cold peel HTV and sometimes the transfer tape plays a part. I.e we have hot peel HTV but sometimes when we’re using a...
  13. Confused about dye sub and dye sub transfers

I think you’re getting confused between dye sub and HTV (heat transfer vinyl). Dye sub is great, but as you said, very limited in that they need to have at the very least 50-70% polyester content, even then, the print will only stay on the 50-70% that is polyester. Pro - breathable, lasting...
  14. Onyx/Oce Colorado communication issues

Don’t get me wrong, the take up is ideal. And even the media’s that canon have the tension bar turned on, I turn it off first go to see if it’ll let me run it without. However, the media’s that I do need the tension bar for, it wastes a lot. What’s your opinion on the Colorado 1650? Pretty...
  15. What's proper etiquette if a prospect sends you a competitor's proof for pricing?

If you pay someone to build a house, you don’t own all the architectural drawings/all the other stuff required to make the house. You’re buying the finished product. In other words, if someone pays you to make a sign, they do NOT own the files/design you created unless this is agreed upon/paid...
  16. Slowdown????

Can I have one of these slowdowns everyone’s talking about? Would be nice to just catch up and clear my feet!
  17. Question Help! Contour Cut Issues

Maybe I’ve just got the blade upside down
  18. Question Help! Contour Cut Issues

Sounds like the blade is too far out. You need to just be able to see the end of the tip. For laminated vinyl I usually have the pressure at 200 if that helps.
  19. Need Help Dark colors = greasy spots on my HP latex HELP!

Don’t think I’ve ever seen Bruce actually try to help on a thread like this. It’s always “throw away your expensive machine and buy my expensive machine instead”. Don’t you need to be a merchant member for that sort of stuff anyway? As far as the OP goes. If this isn’t the case with all...
  20. Friday giggles

I had that the other day. Customer supplied a PDF of a jpg. The file was 1.7GB. Yes, GB. For a 1’ x 1’ sign. Worst part about it, was it was just a blue background with white writing, and it was still pixelated. He’d saved a low res jpg at 2400dpi or something thinking that would save it.
