Art Competition Piece

Theres a local competition held by our central bank every year. I had talked about entering since I was in high school, now almost 10 years later I am throwing my hat into the ring. Worked on this over the course of 5 months. I can honestly say im not going to be doing any more traditional art for a good long while, the entire process too too much out of me.

Fantastic submission... that attention to detail is mind-blowing! I would love to get to see this in person. Great work and good luck with the competition!

Field trip!

I can just see a bunch of us heading to the Bahamas to view this incredibly original piece in person.

A little snorkeling, adult beverages and beachcombing on the side of course.

Thanks for all the comments guys!
I came in 2nd so im racking up this one as a loss.

Heres what took the gold, and $7,500. I especially like the glitter and crayola markers that were used. A real DeVinchi! This was nothing more than a clown show to give friends government money. The entire ceremony was a joke. Didnt mind coming second but second to this and a speech about how we need to find ourselves as artists to win was spit in the face. The kid wasn't even there (high school kid with important parents), his parents picked it up for him because he had school the next day.

Very detailed! Kinda scary but also really makes you want to look at it.
Good luck!

Shame about the biased judges, though.
Love....Jill

Looks like a lota India Ink and some water color. I did a lot of this in high school and even into college for a time. We managed to incorporate paisley into it, also. We had projects where several students worked on the same piece for weeks on end, each putting a little of themselves into it. They always turned out great. One neat thing we did was to put water down on the canvas, let it dry in certain forced areas and then dropped ink on it and with straws and other apparatus, we made designs, which we later [after it dried] would turn into artistic renderings. That was really weird, but we were all weird back then.

Your entry is very nice and looking at the other entries, should've won. However, when there aren't any rules and garbage is allowed in, for some reason, garbage always wins out. Some kinda artsy-fartsy hippie attitude thing going on with the creative juices getting better results over real talent.

Art "contests" are subjective to the judges tastes more times than not...I really liked yours, cool style.
