  1. signlab 8 saves files in the wrong directory...sort of

I have sat here perplexed at times trying to locate files that I absolutely know I have, and saved at the time of making them, but mysteriously they can't be found..... I think I have figured out why and how this is occuring. My old Signlab 5 never did this and I have never seen it happen...
  2. 2 thumbs up for Summa technical support

I was amazed yesterday when I attempted to call Summa for support on a 5 year old opus cutter. I called and within 3 rings it was actually answered by a human voice who immediately set out to help me. My problem is that lately my opus seems to be having issues with reading the registration...
  3. what should I do about this?

I made a sign for a customer a few months back... It was done on a brushed aluminum alupanel and was to be mounted on an inner wall in the foyer of their building. It was not even that big, maybe 15" x 20". We put it up using double sided foam tape from a sign supplier on a painted wall. I...
  4. strange emails today

I received 2 emails today and one wanted a quote to remove all the signs from his building somewhere in Arizona!!! I am in Canada, so I quoted him $50,000. seems like a deal for me. Then right after that email I get another from some guy who thinks I am Doug and that I have to email him...
  5. Summa d-140 temper mental!!!

Every job today I have attempted to cut using the opus has resulted in pure frustration. Most days the plotter runs fine, but then there are days like today that no matter what goes in or no matter how long it has been sitting laminated, the SOB just refuses to see the registration marks. I...
  6. Hello, This is Susan your local Google representitive...SLAM!!!

What marketing genius thinks this is a good way to drum up sales? Good ole recorded Susan seems to call here every day, and I always say %^*$ off, and slam the phone down. Now I can go back to my dangling vinyl hanging off a vehicle to make sure it will go down properly......damn you...
  7. WOW just wow!!!

This guy comes in who was recommended by another client. He carries in 10 black coro signs double sided about 12" x 24". All vinyl cut and now he needs to have the web changed and the phone number. He felt it would be a waste to just throw them out and start over, so I measured the area and...
  8. print shifting over a 30" length when applied

I suppose it is all part of the day, but I have these 8 indoor signs that naturally are due today. I cut my alumapanel last night and oversized the print just a bit. I like using the laminator to apply the vinyl (no lam), but today for whatever reason the print when finished has either...
  9. My Friday has started out...well...you tell me

I'm telling you it doesn't rain...it pours idiots today..... it's only 10:30 and 3 seperate events have already happened. 1) get a request for 15 custom logo no parking signs from a repeat customer and we have them ready. Tell receptionist to call them and instruct them that these orders...
  10. just got my Sabre 2 table cutter

Took it out of the crate and this thing looks pretty good. I got the 80" cutter and will be using this instead of my Fletcher, which has been a pain in the a$$ since being bought. The problem with the Fletcher 3000 is trying to line up material properly dur to out of square substrates...
  11. have you ever laminated a scrim banner?

Has anyone laminated a banner using a 3ml laminate through a laminator? Does it actually work and hold? I am asking as I am printing a dark blue banner and know it will get scuffed in general handling. What you think?
  12. are roll of pre mask really 100 yards?

I am doubting this as I am running a 48" roll and I have cut up exactly 2 full 50 yard rolls of frosted and I have about 1/4" left of masking yet still have at least 30 or 40 feet still left of un masked film. who would ever question the length? I am now.... Keep you posted.
  13. signlab 8 - how do I bring a file in using the colour specs from illy?

I have noticed that my SignLab when importing files, seems to switch everything to rgb and you don't really know the true colour the designer requested. Is there a setting to bring files in as they were saved? cmyk? i cant seem to find anything
  14. does anyone have a 1 foot piece of Avery Florentine Silver Leaf?

A customer is desperate for 1 foot of this stuff for a good customer of his. I said i would try to see if I could buy a small piece online for him. The stuff has to be bought in 10 yard rolls here and no one has any in stock anyhow. Anybody? PM me if you would like to sell 12" or so of it...
  15. any reccomendations for a flat surface cutter?

I have a Fletcher 3000 but it is very hard to cut digital prints with it once they are applied to coro or pvc because, everything has to line up 90 degrees to the cut line. It can be hard to manipulate 4 x8's to try and move them 1/4" due to material out of square or print not put down 100%...
  16. any Signlab 8 users out here?

I need to send a file to see if the same thing happens when you try to cut. This file refuses to send a portion of the graphic every time, but if I send just this one element it will go. I need to see if it is my software or a bug with the program. I have had this happen to me several...
  17. printed white on matte black looks odd

I used Duracoat super opaque white and printed on 3m sc 50 matte black. It looks OK, but while setting up the bomb site I could see that the white sort of looked like perf film, if you know what I mean. It was not solid although from a distance it looks perfectly fine. I sort of got worried and...
  18. Need to vent...

I was red in the face this morning from having to deal with an absolute %^%$ head customer. Well in fact I am normally his customer as he does engraving and small dye sub work. He emails me a pdf file to quote Monday afternoon. So first off in his e-mail he is asking me for a quote on 3.25" x...
  19. printing grey scale graphic

I knew before I even started that this would happen. Everything is in shades of beige. Do you suppose if I turn colour correction off it will get closer to greys?
  20. dilemma...

I am working on this trailer and the front of the trailer is not flat to the sides, instead it comes out to a rounded point. They designed the trailer with a strip going around it. I used 3m 2ml and while doing the stripe on the front I had to use soap and water to get it down without terribly...
