On my roland I just used to pick MAX impact in versaworks. for my mimaki I have to juice up the black with at least 35,35,35,100.

What's the line look like when you zoom all the way in? It could be that these are files that are vectorized and instead of getting smooth curves you have short straight line segments. Most lines will have only a few points along it using math to make the curves.

That how we did it for years before we got separate machines. In versaworks I setup Queue A defaults for print cut and Queue B as cut only.
