Hi there!
What an annoying sound! You're right about it trying to get to park the head to the proper position. Besides and after adjusting the belt tension you should do an "Limit Initialize setup". This will basically recalibrate the printer's length and capping position.
PM me if you need...
I run into this all the time. Doing a few medium or a power clean should clear this up.
I would put the printer into your weekly clean mode then swab the heads with a well solvent soaked swab. Don't scrub them... just pat them with pressure to force the solvent into the nozzles. Then do a power...
Trust me... the belt is not an easy thing to get at! The entire wiper station has to be removed to get at the belt!
However, the good thing is that you probably don't need to replace the belt :)
At the front of the wiper station you can see a "winged" brass pensioner that holds a small gear...
I'm guessing you have bad caps and that's why you aren't getting good suction on your print heads.
I would replace the caps... there are only 2 of them.
Tool Carriage disconnection error
It could be as simple as the magnet not making good contact between the tool carriage and the print head.
Take a look at it and make sure it's making a flush contact and nothing is bent.
If it's more than that I would call your tech and have them walk you...
Most definitely the encoder strip.
As Ragnabrok suggested... use isopropyl on a swab and lightly scrub both sides of the strip. Make sure you get the area above the capping station as well. Then let it dry for a few minutes.
Wouldn't hurt to do an environmental match as well.
Be aware that...
I recently ran into this with one of my customers. He updated VersaWorks from 3 to the latest 4.11 and also experienced the weird multicolored lines. All his tiff files are from an old version of Illustrator... pre CS version i believe.
The fix was to load the tiffs into CS2 or better then...
Call your local tech on how to do a FULL UNINSTALL...not just the uninstall button in your programs. There is a certain way to do the uninstall, they can send you to a site with the latest Versaworks and have you fully updated and installed quickly.
The pump has a direction arrow (P Pump (waste) and S Suction side - (to the Y you mentioned)...yes, you can mix this up easily. The Bit setting is int the Service Mode... System Switch...arrow to Page 12 (the last bit is "0"..change to "1" ...ENTER.
Check your blade holder... may be worn out.
Change the blade ... may be broken or worn.
Change the Cut Strip ...may be worn from usage
If you're using a 45 degree blade - .250 setting...with a 60degree .500 setting
Check cut pressure...new blade setting is "around" 120 grams force depending on...
Did you connect the tubes to the correct side of the pump? Be sure to change the bit setting (page 12 last bit to 1). Update Firmware. And, since you're this far, you may want to replace cap tops if it's been awhile and do a good all over maintenance cleaning.
The FJ converted does not print very well with the newer EcoSol max inks. Yes, heat is your best friend to get the best print you're able, of course media choice is always important to get a great print. With the FJ you've got an uphill battle.
