  1. Best Windows PC 2023

I'm a build it yourself kind of guy because you can usually get more bang for your buck and I also just enjoy it. But I understand why someone would just want to pay and be done with it for sure. My thoughts on what you should look for below: If you want fast RIP speeds, processor clock speed...
  2. Customer wanting to use trademarked logo on their signage

They should have some sort of dealer agreement that states how they can use logos etc. I don't think you have any liability if they end up getting in trouble. Just make sure to get paid upfront. For example, as a Mimaki dealer, when referring to their printers, technically I am not supposed to...
  3. Port Issues

Try another com port if you have the option. Flexi has a tendency to change the port randomly.
  4. Why the color variations?

You can do this in Photoshop in case you didn't know. In the eye dropper settings you can specify how many pixels to sample and it will give you the average color of the sample.
  5. Why the color variations?

This or if you're using Flexi, use the color mapping tool. You pick the pantone you want to match, it prints out a chart of a range of colors around that pantone, you pick which one that looks like it the most, and then from that point on Flexi maps that color to that pantone. Pretty useful in...
  6. Rant Hiring Installers

This is very much like printer techs. You can either be independent or work for a dealer full time. As an independent tech, you get the full $200+ per hour but you also don't get paid when there isn't work. I've only known a few guys who can actually pull of being independent successfully. As a...
  7. Cutting weird

Good advice above^ Also, when cuts don't return to the origin properly like that it is also a sign that the offset setting is incorrect. Doublecheck that setting is the proper setting for your specific blade.
  8. Mutoh 661UF Alignment / Color Issues

Here's a free course on using Verilith: https://mutoh.thinkific.com/courses/vertelith If you scroll to the bottom, there's also a free add on about braille. Might help!
  9. Communication fun.

Create a file that is just a crosshair and set it up to be print and cut. Then print and cut it. Then go into the mark detect settings on the plotter and adjust the X and Y offset settings to move the cut to the proper place. I'd make a file with a bunch of crosshairs each with their own crop...
  10. The sound is making me crazy!!!

These machines do make high pitched noise if you're sensitive to that sort of thing. I developed tinnitus in the last 2 years and definitely notice it more.
  11. Mutoh 1204 Media initialize

It's called, "Prev. Stick" and should be in the Setup menu. Just turn it off and it should stop doing that.
  12. what kind of material to use for translucent stickers? Customers does not want the black background. I have a mutoh vj 1324

Call your supplier and ask what they recommend for the job. There are many types of translucent just like regular vinyl. Pretty much every major brand has translucent options.
  13. Trade printer entertainment

Back in my sign shop days my boss took a job from a guy who wanted a life sized pinup print of his girlfriend on his motorcycle. For reasons I'm sure you can infer, it was printed after hours. :D
  14. Mimaki Cjv30-130 started printing all black mid print.

As far as cables go, as long as the pin count and pitch are the same, they should work. You don't usually have to worry about too many pins as it just won't fit but too few can cause issues with leads lining up and short things out. So I would just check the cables against the connector on the...
  15. 10 yard rolls are different

We used to sell a lot of vinyl before transitioning to a printer tech company. I definitely lost count of how many times I had rolled out a roll sometimes and gave people extra by accident.
  16. 10 yard rolls are different

One looks like it came directly from 3m and the other looks like it came from FDC, a 3m converter. Are the backers different? The one on the right looks thicker.
  17. Epson Surecolor stopped connecting to computer!!

You can also use the command, arp -a, in command prompt and it will list all connected network devices.
  18. VG 640 Ink waste!

That does seem like a lot of ink for a week but I am more experienced with Mutoh and Mimaki printers so I'm not sure if Roland just uses more. They all use the same technology but in different ways. Just keep in mind that every time you hear the pump running doesn't mean it's cleaning. Most of...
  19. Question Mimaki JV33 "printhead bracket"

Yeah they stopped supporting the JV33 and CJV30 a while back. They still have some parts but it can be hit or miss.
  20. Question Mimaki JV33 "printhead bracket"

I feel like I should have a million of those but I looked and I don't. If you don't end up finding one, I should be able to get you a new one, although I'm sure it's overpriced. Good luck!
